Hi, just testing the water for guitarists Firstly I don't play live and only use my equipment in a home studio.

Now I have two effects/modellers that I use:

    1) Line 6 HX Stomp XL

    2) Ampero Hotone Stomp 2

I find being a seventy year old that I need simplicity in my life, yet I also demand versatility

I was contemplating getting a Tonex One and reluctantly selling the Ampero to replace it.

Heres my dillema, I currently use the Ampero in the fx loop of the line 6 and obtain Very good results, now would I gain anything by replacing the ampero with a Tonex one. as yet

I haven't heard a demo of the Tonex but the reviews/hype seem to give it a good recommendation.

Any help on this would be appreciated, especially from anyone who uses a similar setup.

ToneX is too limited FX wise BUT is profiler

Ampero 2 Stomp dont support "tone catch" profiling (for now)

HX Stomp is not a profiler BUT with very good FX choice.

To me profilers "feel" better than any algo, even the best Axe FX.

So to me, if you need "feel" and profiling, try to get an Ampero 2 or 2 Stage (not Stomp) second hand : you will get good FX and "tone catch" profiling

May be a second hand GE200, if you only want basic FX (more than ToneX anyway).
There is an high gain pack on this forum

As "vox AC30' like, "copper" profile from avrusci is a PURE GEM (free on Mooer GE200+).

Hi, thanks for your intrest, Maybe its my age but your reply seems a tad confusing, i already have the line 6 HX stomp XL and an Hotone Ampero 2 stomp. The hotone is conected in the Line 6 HX send/return and I tend to use the Line 6 for effects before and after the amp, and the Ampero as an amp. I was wondering if the Tonex one would be a good/ more versatile substitute for the Ampero,

From my previous research, and previous owner of the Ampero ONE, I opted to buy a Valeton GP-200 and have never regretted it. Can be as simple or as complex as you like. Doesn't profile, but does have outstanding modelling of amps and is constantly being updated by Valeton to add new amps and FX. The simplicity part comes by the fact that on the front you have a button for each FX block to turn that FX on or off and jump straight to it's settings page, where you have a few knobs on the front to then turn the parameters. It has everything from boutique gear like a Dumble amp of Klon pedal through to more modern things like the Soldano and Diezel amps and creative FX. I. like you, no longer play live and mosty play my guitars in my studio, and this thing can be plugged into the FX loop of my valve amp with a clean setting to take advantage of the valve power stage for that extra sprinkle on top of the amazing modelling, or it has full pro balanced XLRs etc to connect straight into an audio interface for recording (as well as USB and being it's own audio interface if that works for you). I really can't recommend this thing enough!

PS Valeton and Hotone as the same parent company so often share modelling, if that reassures you at all

Given that you use your Ampero for amps and the Line6 as FX I would say yes. The ToneX will be a noticeable improvement in amp sounds. However I will say its not as easy to use as the Ampero and you might need to hook it up to your PC to get the most out of Tone.net

    @jefft Sorry, i didn't understood right :wink:

YES, any profiler will improve playing FEEL.
ToneX is a good contender to complement Ampero or Line6.

BUT i would advice to sell your Ampero 2 stomp and buy an Ampero 2 or Stage 2
Profling is now integrated in them with the last firmware.

"Tone Catch" profiling on Ampero 2 / Stage 2 is amazing, like ToneX.
And you will get less headache than switching ToneX profiles separatly

Ampero made the best "all in one" for cheap : algo AND profiling, with a bunch of good FX

You can send ToneX back to seller
I didn"t "clicked" on Tonex, because i hate playing with my feets (switching amps with ToneX AND switching FX on another pedal).
Until IK make an "Amplitube" multi FX with at least one foot pedal, i will not buy their products.

I'm waiting to see if Hotone are REALLY updating their older devices to "tone catch".
If they really do, they will kill ToneX, QuadCortex, Kemper, Mooer ...

Because you can get a second hand Ampero 1 for 200 bucks and less for other models :woot:
You get a LOT more FX than ToneX, and really close to other "thousand bucks" solutions.

It's fine, I got the Tonex one and spent all today playing around with it. Two outstanding points that forced a return to Amazon, 1) the software is hideous( I'm not a newbie to computers, I've been building them for studios in Hull for years) but I've never experienced such badly designed software. 2) I hate when you scroll through all the presets and find that a third don't work and the software asks you to update to max for£99 to get these presets. And 3) Amazon reduced the price by £10 today..lol. so I'll wait for my Stomp 2 to update, I have it on good authority, that this will come at the next update. Thanks for all your help.

Yes, and they all stand up to the test :winker:

That's why Hotone is getting more and more points : long support with firmware updates (Yes Mooer, i talk to YOU), algos AND profiles now, good FX ...

Ok I've ruled out the Tonex, but I still want a unit that connects into my line 6 stomp hx send/return, so I can add separate amps in the loop freeing up DSP in the stomp. I've been looking at the Harvey Benton multi effects, which I'm lead to believe it's a mooer ge150, has anyone any experience with this unit TIA

    I would advice GE200 minimum.
Because other models don't use MNRS 2.0 profiling.
You can find one second hand for 150-200 euros.

Yes, Mooer created Kemper like profilers before ToneX/NAM/Quadcortex ...
    GE250/GE300 in 2019

BUT i would advice (once again) to sell your Stomp 2 and buy a second hand Ampero 2 / Stage 2, with integrated Tone Catch.

Now, if you don't want to sell before buying again, GE200 with Anthony Class/ Avrusci free profiles is good enough to me for years

The most important with profilers is PROFILES themselves.
Anthony Class made an amazing job with Mooer MNRS.
