R.I.P. - Mike Pinera (Iron Butterfly) passed away on November 20th, 2024

On November 20, 2024, the American musician and singer Mike Pinera died of liver failure at the age of 76. Pinera started in the sixties with his band Blues Image, for which he co-composed and sang the hit "Ride Captain, Ride" and then switched to Iron Butterfly, with whom he recorded the album "Metamorphosis" (1970).

This was followed by further stints with The New Cactus Band, a project with Mitch Mitchell and a collaboration with Alice Cooper in the early eighties. Before that, he had already released two solo albums in the second half of the seventies, "Isla" (1977) and "Forever" (1979).

Finally, a few years ago he reformed Blues Image again and produced the album Next Voyage, which was released in 2023. According to internet reports, he is said to have passed away peacefully at home in Tampa, Florida, surrounded by his family. Rest in peace, Mike.
