Ah, from the songwriting maestro Beato who wrote such unforgettable tunes as... uh... hmm.. who wrote good tunes such as... ummm...

 

I found his previous music theory books useful, and I view theory and composition as two separate processes. So I'm not overly concerned about his own musical output, or anybody else's for that matter. Besides, you can't write a book without knowing about vocabulary and the letters of the alphabet.

He is very knowledgeable ... and he shows it. But knowledgeable is every book I read in the 70s about music theory. So, Rick Beato, I can't stand that DadSchmock. He always seems to me more in the game to show his face than trying to bring anything to learn. He is a poser. And mostly nothing but.

 

It's music theory, which he is a master at, designed for helping people write songs. It's not a songwriting course which wouldn't be appropriate for him to teach as he isn't a writer of any merit, that is of any which I'm aware of.

Was literally about to post the same link. I forget which song it was he co-wrote which went to number 1 but the fact is, he knows what he's talking about even if some people here hate him for whatever reason.

 

No hate here, I rather like the dude and his interviews. He has like a handful of songwriting credits from that WikiP entry, and who knows what his input was on that #1 song, it could have just been the hook.

 

First an foremost he's a youtuber. One of the better ones IMHO.
He's quite knowledgeable in music, mainly in theory and about the business. He makes a rather self-confident impression, which bothers many. people. Why?
From what I've seen, he plays some instruments quite well. But he's not a rock star, but he didn't claim to be.
And guys: we are all posers. It's not a bug, it's a feature. Some more, some less.

 

Come on fellas, it's good spirited fun.

Of course Beato has way more to show for than 99% of us here, and 97% of that 99% is me alone.

But even tho he has a #1 record under his belt, who can honestly say it was an unforgettable song? Had any of you even heard of it before you discovered his channel? I was just poking fun at "unforgettable". Not questioning his knowledge or skills by any means.

Then again, maybe it's just cleverly worded marketing. Technically, with enough repetition any melody can become stuck in our heads, hence become unforgettable.

 

It's fine imo, you don't need to learn plumbing from someone who's unclogged Taylor Swift's shitter to become a good plumber yourself.

I'm confused there are people who agree with him and want to do more of what he thinks is good

all this shit is subjective, most people just aren't so self-righteous about how wrong they are though

 

He had a modest music background playing in bands before moving moving into studio work, and then got lucky with his YouTube idea of teaching music theory/dissecting hit songs, etc. He still had to build up the channel from scratch though, and the megastar interviews are a fairly new addition, so you could say his hard work and determination eventually paid off. I agree his personality can be annoying at times, but he's still at it while other music YouTubers have fallen by the wayside.
