O/T but I would love to work out in what year the amount of hard drive storage in my house would have been more than all disk-based storage on Earth
In other words if I have, say, 10Tb in my house in what year did all hard drives on Earth surpass 10Tb. I've tried to work it out and I can't.

With regard to better music, knowledge of the plugin (and the hardware it was modeled after) makes the difference (as well as creative talent) in the degree of superior musical quality of the end product. However, with the UAD native stuff properly released it would allow one to simply chuck a large portion of the wannabe plugins we all use now into the bit bucket because the gold standard would finally be available. On a second point, UA is a shit-heel corporation now (didn't use to be) and deserves no quarter from being scene released. Same goes for AVID and protools.

I used UAD plugins (not native) on the UAD-1 (circa 2003-4). The hardware was complete crap and didn't live up to the hype that was supposed to allow one to load as many UAD plugins that a system had resources to support - a subject for a whole other conversation. However, the plugins themselves were/are excellent despite the fact you could only load 2-3 of them at any given time.

Excellent question. I would add to that list, Sonnox, UAD, Protools (current) etc... I have never believed that ILOK was a road block in getting any of that stuff released. It's probably got more to do with industry politics than anything else. We get ILOK shit released on a almost daily basis yet most of the premium audio stuffz are left alone. It's somewhat unfortunate that all that time and effort devoted to a lot of the junk-ware plugins/sample-paks that get released daily by witches couldn't be channeled to release some true audio GEMS instead. The amount of stuff actually worth grabbing anymore has gone way down IMO...

    Day 69420.

Still waiting for that one product to make it to the sister site. Only, one, product.

I really want R2R, or any other releaser, to cut it out with the uptenth compressor and the same old guitar amps and just release it already.

    But i can't.

Because otherwise they would be even less inclined to release it.

So i just have to sit here and, enjoy what's already available. Even the uptenth compressor and the same old guitar amps...

you're totally underselling corporations need to store data and the amount of money they're willing to spend to do so. the year they released data cassettes that stored 200kb the world's data capacity was likely thousands of times greater than your 10tb

this seems like a good overview and begins at 200000tb

Sure, but I'm talking about the early days, the 50s (or maybe earlier, not sure). And not tape, hard drives. I'm talking about when a $100,000 drive array held 40Mb. There was a time when all this was very limited and I want to work out when it was...
You're kind of saying that just because early in their development McDonald's could claim they had sold millions of hamburgers that there was never a time when they had only sold 100,000 hamburgers.

When do you think Black Friday Gongs will appear? November has always been one of the biggest months for R2R in recent years. I'm super excited, love you R2R

Who knows? Maybe. R2R hasn't announced anything if I'm not wrong. But Rhodes were big Gongs, very appreciated.
