because I anytime have internet here, and I listen to music when cooking.
I just open youtube on my phone and audition it on my JBL extreme :)

Besides that I don't lisen to single songs after each other, I prefer nonstop DJ Mixes.

So either I go to youtube, soundcloud, mixcloud or I just stream my own dj mixes from my NAS. When I find a mix with some nice tracks in them I just seach for them and buy them from the musician and create my own djmix. etc.,. Why downloading all the stuff I never want to hear again :)

Ah I see, thats makes sense. I was just wondering what DJ's use now to get their music since there aren't really any mainstream p2ps anymore. CD's arent used much anymore either, and I haven't really seen anyone use vinyl is years, it's all didgital formats now.

I am just a producer / liveact but if I would be a professional DJ I just would listen to music on youtube or elsewhere, collect songs I love and then buy them on beatport / bandcamp. Or just go trough Beatport/bandcamp (bandcamp has no psychill genre option ?!)

sometimes soulseek requires a little setup to get running properly. if you search for something popular and get no results, or only a few results, you probably need to forward a port in your router's gateway setup. there are guides all over the internet to help with this, but we can probably talk you through it if you want some help.

other than that (i assume you're using soulseekQt for PC), you just need to set up your shared folder, your downloads folder, and play with any options you want regarding bandwidth limits etc. once you have soulseek set up right, it's a dream to use. there's nothing i'd rather use to download music. i find the "old-fashioned" P2P architecture utterly charming, particularly if you hit up people to chat after you go rummaging through their music collections.

I think it's quite easy to use, it works kind of like old school FTPs. It's p2p but you can click a user and see what files they have shared, then you can choose what you'd like to download. It's a pretty basic search as well.

I had no idea what beat port is, you're talking to a guy who just returned to the internet after 15+ years plus lol. I'd used my phone like eveyone else for my daily shit, and reading articles and music etc. However, coming back into the realm of music production I felt lost. I'm getting a pretty good handle on things now.

it is not at all worse than any of its other 1999 competitors, that it has lasted 25 years suggests it is also way better

yep it wasn't an app though was it? I think just onlibe sharing. I think Napster was the first popular mainstream p2p app for music though, then came bear share, limewire, kazaa, winMX, frostwire, morpheus, iMesh, few others. Demonoid was my favorite site though.

I still miss it, using an index of tracks was such a good idea that lead me to so much great new music

Hello @scguy83, man, you have a well-functioning brain even though it was all 15 years ago. When I read Limewire and Napster now, my brain's search engine (Human Google) also finds a few memories and pictures. If you ever get bored as a pensioner, you could tell people your story in a video podcast, for future musicians who aren't even born yet. For them, it's a world away and a time long past. Topic: "How it all began...!

Does anyone actually know how many songs exist worldwide these days? Probably as many as there are stars in the sky.
What you can do with 7 basic tones - a total of 12 tones and 26 letters in the alphabet.
