nice gfx, I like it. but the world wide web is not the sole or whole repository of human knowledge and no one can quantify the signal to noise ratio involved, especially since many sources are poisioned or diluted or outright fraud to manipulate the users for everything from political reason to money to shits and grins from pyscho boys locked up in their rooms (neets).

so it would be grand to think we had a world wide fountain of free and correct knowledge, its more like a watering hole being contiously used as a bathroom by elephants.

The comment about VC was also about Native Instruments. If you pay any attention to their products versions and builds; you know they are only quickly flying through Kontakt version changes and not every product. Some of biggest changes they make is the minimum version number requirements for newly released libraries.

So instead of stating the obvious, that Steinberg do not want their protection driving away potential customers like it has for years; show some reasonable proof why you think VC investment is causing more rapid build number releases. How many new programmers have they hired with the investors money? How about a comparison between the number of changes in the actual change logs showing these fixes are what have increased due to "VC" ?

Show proof it is because of new VC money. That is nothing but a tired platitude.

I'm already looking forward to the Nuendo update! The new gain staging alone makes an update worthwhile for me.

Personally, I have nothing against these major updates every year. After all, I get them for free.
What would annoy me as a paying customer, however, is that I'm forced to pay regularly for updates so that bugs can be fixed. If I buy version X.0, all the features it contains must work perfectly! If they don't, the updates must be free until everything works as promised.

Basically, these annual major updates are nothing more than a subscription model in disguise.

If I may correct this: An update of Cubendo / SpectraLayers / Wavelab etc. does not overwrite the Silk emulator! You only need to worry about the R2R emulator again when there is an update for it.
Important: To install Cubendo, the Activation Manager and the Library Manager must be installed. (Only applies to direct downloads from the Steinberg website.) Both programs can be uninstalled after the installation/update.

Are you installing Cubase for the first time? Or did you upgrade from Cubase 13 to 14?
Either way: If Cubendo gets stuck when scanning the plug-ins, there is probably a problem with one of the plug-ins. Have you ever started Cubase with plug-ins disabled? Then you can test whether the problem is with a plug-in or something else.

I think this is one of the best updates I've seen from steinberg so far.
Of course, it would have been nice if these "innovations", which other DAWs have had for a long time, had been introduced a few years ago. Then I could have saved myself the money of buying more software.
    Nevertheless...

What annoys me is that Steinberg switches off VST2 plugins in C14 by default. This with the note that it should serve as a reminder. That is ridiculous. I hate to be educated this way! :knock:
When Steinberg stops support for VST2 I'll stop to buy upgrades. :bleh:

If someone didn't see it yet, here is where you can re-enable VST2: VST Plugin Manager.png

I hate to break it to you but Steinberg HAS stopped support for VST2. If you enable them and your project starts crashing, you're absolutely on your own now. Thank god they will finally be completely gone in the next version once and for all.

If you are just NOW being 'educated' to this, it's your own fault. VST2 was replaced in 2008 and Steinberg told everyone back then it was over and they stopped giving out licenses for VST2 plugins. It's not their fault developers took forever to update their shit and Steinberg has had enough of supporting the old ass VST2 standard. They moved on a decade ago, and were very nice about keeping it alive in their own ecosystem, but it's time for all the slow people to catch up now so they can finally move on to other things..

It's a Steinberg-imposed constraint though. Users who have old plugins that are neither updated nor the company still exists have reason to believe this. They can then install a different DAW from a different manufacturer to play their old purchased plugins.

First the ancient, functional 32-bit plugins went down the drain. I installed an old 32-bit Presonus - Studio One v2.6.5 just to play my 35 x old virtual software synthesizers. There are also a few plugins where the manufacturers don't get the resolution right for 4K monitors.

PreSonus has proper H-DPI scaling. For those plugins where the controls freeze, I use Cakewalk - Sonar. Unfortunately the company has officially disappeared from the market, but Sonar is very stable.

1 did it seem that I was talking about "the case of an update of silk emulator protection"?

2 are you talking for legit users that have one steinberg app isntalled then decide to install-update other non legit apps/libraries/sound banks from the official steinberg downloader?

I am talking about the official EXE files from the official Steinberg website. When you start the official EXE file, it checks if the two mentioned apps are installed. If not, the installation will not continue.

However, I only use the R2R emulator. So I can uninstall both apps after the install/update.
Of course, as soon as you use a Steinberg program legally, the Activation Manager must remain installed, otherwise the (purchased) program will not start.

    You don't need to.
To overcome this origina/R2R hassle when using legit/R2R version side by side I wrote a little batch moving some files to enable Steinbergs Activation Manager or R2R viceversa.
This way I can downlaod and install official apps without hassle and than switch back to R2R

    Code:
After installing the original activation manager
    first place a subdirectory named @orig and a second named @R2R in c:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\
    Copy files from c:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\Activation Manager\ to @Orig dir
    After installing R2R solution copy files from c:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\Activation Manager\ to @R2R dir

    1. Enable Original
    C:/Windows/System32/cmd.exe /C copy /Y "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\@Orig\license-engine-access.dll" "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\Activation Manager\"

    2. Enable R2R
    C:/Windows/System32/cmd.exe /C copy /Y "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\@R2R\license-engine-access.dll" "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\Activation Manager\"
now you can switch by calling the desired batch as admin.
Before you install sth from the Steinberg DL/manager
    just call batch 1
and when you'd like to switch back to R2R solution
    just call batch 2.

With a Streamdeck it's even easier, I just place each command on a button.

The clip gain functionality is a great idea,

BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT

    They fucked it up!

Before, you could easily change event volume with the arrow tool. Now, when events are short, the handle is not visible any more!! Now you need to switch to the range tool, double click the event so that the handle gets visible, and change volume. STUPID !!!!!!!!

Sometimes I wonder if Steinberg guys are too blind…

I think it's what Cubase 13 should have been, they're playing catch up, I have it but haven't had time to mess with it much
