glad so many people still use and recommend Soulseek. there's also a version for android called Seeker. i still use soulseek several times a week. some of the old chatrooms have even maintained a level of vibrancy that is surprising for a program that's 23 years old

yes but the page you linked does only give very bad quality. YT quality is max. 125kbit/s no matter what video size you pick.

on top of that these are reencodes, usually the audio stream in a video is opus or something else, but mp3 requires a reencode, which will digitally degenerate the audio once more, from the already bad quality yt already offers.

It stays hard to get files from spotify directly, because spotify tends to patch any holes quickly and not let it open for 3+ years like deezer did (finally fixed the encryption during covid)

How is Soulseek on macOS? It seems like the installer for it is quite old last I looked, certainly not native arm, ....

Just wondering if anyone here was using it on that platform...

Do you have a "Spotify Premium Account 2" for 10.99 euros?

It would be nice if you wrote beforehand, I am a customer and have paid or I want everything for
free - I have no money. You always have to ask the users if they bought it or which team they use.

sometimes B rated artist no one ever heard of are better than the overpromoted shit you are told to listen to. if you love music, you have to search for music that speaks to you. You must make an effort, its like fishing in a river full of trash but sometimes you pull out a diamond and that makes it worth the effort and makes you keep fishing.

I always have my ears tuned for something and when I hear something I investigate it. Who made it, do they have a catalog, who produced it.

Amy Winehouse in her early days was not promoted much in the states. I found her probably on usenet and my approach to usenet was download a song from an album and if it was good, grab the whole thing. I got hip to her pretty early and that got me into looking into Mark Ronson who produced her. Its a journey and you don't have a destination, you just enjoy the trip.

Its the same for movies. There is over a century of movies available. I don't waste my time on most modern films. I find directors and actors and dig into their catalog. If a film was good in 1932, its most likely still good today, maybe even better. There is a lot of trash in the world, if you play the game of only focusing on the latest things you are being raped by the attention machine, even if you get the content for free.

The worst thing about the destruction of the music industry was the loss of the curation that was done by collectors who wrote and shared their views and information about obscure artists and strange and different music. It provided a map and a path to find treasures, now we must dig deeper and farther usually alone. it takes time and effort as all good things do.

Go back, look at old music magazines and read about artists and releases you can mine the past as easy as the present, and much of the sorting and refining has already been done for you. look up top 100 songs for any given years, there are many starting points of reference if you look for them.

Hehe. Yeah IRC is still there. Mostly just lurkers anymore. Not much actually going on in the channels. I haven't used any of those for grabbing mainstream released audio in years.

Yeah. FLAC (free lossless audio codec) Nice ain't it? Doesn't smash the stuff down as small as MPEG3, BUT you do get decent data compression and the audio STAYS INTACT and true to the original capture with NO ARTIFACTS.

This is very true indeed, I've found some really good undground artists years ago when I used to listen to mainly hiphop. I listened to like slug/atmosphere, living legends crew, planet asia, sage franchis, eyedea, aesop rock etc. battle rappers etc. No one who listened to mainsteam music even knew who any of them were.

I was more so looking for mainsteam titles to mix and remix that people actually know in clubs etc. It is defintely a good idea to dive deeper into not so well known artists though for sure. I didn't even know there was a market for this until recently, I always thought only mainstream music titles and artists were the most popular/known. There are lots of untapped potential and talented artists out there for sure, most just waiting for the big break and to be "discovered" or either they are true independent artists like Tom MacDonald, DAX etc.

I didn't even know there was a market for independent "B list" movies either. Some I've seen are really great movies, just didn't have a big budget. The orginal 1978 Halloween is a great example of this, they never thought the film would be as wildely succesful or produce an actual franchise because they worked with a very small budget.

Networking has a become a big thing now and with the intenet and social media as well as software being available to the consumer market anyone can be an artist these days. Not eveyone has to seek out professional record studios and sound designers anymore like the past.

I still wonder why anyone would resort to extremes to grab inferior 256/320kps audio streams when there are unlimited 44-96k streams available at practically the same price point. Makes no sense to me...

and this wont get me banned correct? I didn't even know you could get spotify without a real account. If I paid for it I wouldn't care I'd just get another one, but my brother has a family account and they had like 5 people they could add.

There are two types of downloaders: those who have money and those who don't (legal and illegal). If they have money, they support the bands and artists, they deserve it. Who works for free? When they go to the supermarket, they only buy what they eat.
