this downloads from yt and makes mp3 out of it. 128 is unacceptable for me, only if there is no other source for a song.

The thread starter wrote that he is a Spotify customer. He logged in and then used the Spotify downloader:

    How to use?
    1. Open your Spotify app.
    2. Find the track, album or playlist you would like to download.
    3. Click the "3 dots".
    4. Select "Share" and click on "Copy link".
    5. Paste the link above and click "Submit".
    6. Wait for the tool to process.
    7. Click the "Download" button below a track you would like to download.
Or click "Download ZIP" button to download the full album or playlist.

Tidal-DL is my go to. Download as flac, host on Plexamp.

Hate Tidal itself though, artists with the same name get bunched up on the same page. But thanks to its poor management its no surprise its the easist the steal from.

Yes, I remember sNapster/lime-whatever... However I never used any of those. It was torrent, Kaza, private FTP, usenet, and IRC, for me. Still use torrent. Kaza is dead for the most part although still somewhat functional. Napster was destined for the shit-heap as soon as it appeared.

Used to have a spotify account and grabbed streams from there, but all their stuff is lossy compressed and I got tired of dealing with the artifacts and crappy effects of lossy compression. Have since dropped spotify and went qobuz. Their stuff is 96k/24bit or at the very least 44k/16bit (cd quality) with no lossy compression. Qobuz costs about 1-2$ more than the "320 kps" spotify account (which is supposedly their "best" quality) so it's hard to beat. I grab streams regularly @96/24 or 44/16 and then save them off as .FLAC. Audacity has the ability to capture streams right from the audio interface - which means if you can hear it you can capture it.

Some have commented that qobuz doesn't have the selection that spotty has but I have yet to find anything that was on spotify that is not on qobuz. Plus if it is on spot and it's hashed up at 256/320kps who really gives a shit at that point. It's all mashed and crappy sounding...
