So, me and my friend are thinking about hosting a live rap event - something similar to an "open-mic", for young and aspiring artists to come and try themselves in live situation. And I'm wondering - what processing should be used in order to achieve somewhat acceptable sound?

Consider that music's conna be played through a basic set of live stereo speakers. Next - artists probably gonna bring their beats in mp3 format. Should we use some side-chain compression in order to produce a thick sounding voice? We could probably use stem-separation software in order of getting drums to cut through voice.

So, we probably throw in some compression, some EQ on the voice channels - and that would be it? Can any of you share your experience in this type of thing? Thank you in advance.

if you got the flow you don't need much, that's the beauty of live rap, just don't get close to the speaker letting the mic feedback as hell.

if you ain't the flow push the mute button on the vocal channel and save time.

Split the signal and isolate Lows/Sub with a couple Filters,
    send isolated signal to Subwoofer..

Brickwall limiter on Master/Bus to avoid blowing the whole thing apart

Prepare nice FX Chain for the vocalist,
sidechain comp is an option I guess, but I'd do it subtly without direct control of the music..
