Ha. funny that. Studio one IS Cubase. it was developed by ex Steinberg developers there are so many simularities. but what. one person thinks is fast to another takes for ever. i ran Sone6 for a bit and i wanted to smash my rig with its little tweaky crap. good for some maybe its not for me

Do you spend time to answer? No need... :)

Anyway checking if the v14 is compatible with my old macs where Monterey is installed, since min requirement is: macOS Sonoma / macOS Ventura / macOS Sequoia...maybe is not supported but can be installed...WORKS ON MONTEREY!

Just updated v13 to latest and there isn't anything compelling enough in v14 to be concerned with. Plus, the TeamV.R. release for v14 isn't available yet which is the only one I ever use...

Cubase and Nuendo as well have always been the #1 DAW's for MIDI support. I guess if you don't ever work much with MIDI it wouldn't matter one way or the other.

That's for damn sure. After all Presonus started as a hardware company. Unlike Steingberg. Steinberg hardware was never designed or built by them. Tho the early stuff was high quality German made by RME. Even now it's made by their current owners Yamaha.

    1. professional studio one sound (daws dont sound the same haha) - [subjective]
    2. better layout gui - [again, subjective]
    3. loads faster than cubase - [might be true but I hear way more complaints about crashing plugins with S1 than cubase]
    4. simpler look. (less is more) - [subjective]

    Not a "negative", that's a deal-breaker actually.

What is The Difference Between VST2 And VST3
    https://blacktidemusic.com/software-and-plugins/vst2-vs-vst3/

What is VST? What's the difference between VST, VST2, and VST3?
VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology. It’s an audio plug-in software interface that has the power to integrate things like virtual instruments and effect modules into your DAW. VST simulates traditional audio recording hardware in software by using digital signal processing (DSP).

This technology was released in 1996 by the German company Steinberg Media Technologies. The VST format created a revolution in the digital audio world and quickly became the de facto standard in the music industry. A big reason for this success is that, through licensing agreements, Steinberg allowed other companies to build their own applications on top of their technology. This encouraged many third-party companies to develop their own VST-compatible audio plug-ins.

Nowadays, VST is still the most popular format for audio plug-ins, though there are others. VST2 and VST3 are simply different versions of VST.

Many additional features were introduced in the VST version 3 (VST3) and these plug-ins are now supported by most hosts and DAWs.

Here’s what Steinberg has to say about VST3:

“VST3 marks an important milestone in audio technology with a completely rewritten code base providing not only many new features but also the most stable and reliable VST platform ever.”

Some of the most noticeable features introduced in VST3 by Steinberg are:

    • Better performance. VST3 applies processing power only when there are audio signals coming in their respective inputs.
    • Multiple dynamic inputs and outputs. This means VST3 plug-ins adapt dynamically to the channel configuration it’s inserted in. For example, if you are editing in stereo, the plug-in will adjust itself for 2 channels. But if you then choose to switch to surround, the plug-in will switch to 6 channels.
    • More flexible control of VST plug-ins through remote controllers. The ability to control a DAW and its plug-ins remotely is becoming more and more popular. VST3 offers much more flexible control to remote controllers.
    • Audio inputs for VST instruments. It’s now possible to route audio data into a VST3 instrument.
    • Multiple MIDI inputs and outputs. Unlike VST2, a VST3 plug-in can have more than one MIDI input or output connected at the same time.
You can read the full list and description of VST3 new features on Steinberg’s website.

Actually they can and VST2 has been dead to Steinberg since they released VST3 in 2008. Steinberg hasn't given out a license to publish a VST2 plugin, or supported the developers still stuck on it, for 10+ years at this point. Being able to still use them, doesn't mean anything is 'supported'. If you have a crash and have a VST2 plugin in your project, they wont help you at all at this point. They haven't helped a developer fix a VST plugin in over 10 years now when support for the VST2 spec was once and for all stopped, 5-6 years after they told people it was time to move to VST3. 16 years later, some developers STILL haven't moved on, and they're on their own now.

VST means Virtual Studio Technology and is an invention by the German company Steinberg, they have the patent on it.
VST became VST2, a further development due to technological progress. VST2 was the format for a long time - all DAWs ate and accepted this format. It was very stable and there were rarely any problems.

Steinberg then developed VST3 and in most cases you could still freely choose whether you wanted to install VST2 or VST3 or even both. Then VST3 came onto the market and many users reported crashes and other errors.

That was a very stressful time, but it soon got better thanks to the plug-in manufacturers. Unfortunately, Steinberg overdid its monopoly somewhat and banned the VST2 format in Cubase and the SDK software.

Of course, everyone is free to invent a different technology and then the CLAP interface came first in Bitwig, FL Studio and now even in Studio One.

for this kind of things my advice is to get used to this thread

you will find everything (and more) there
    Cubase/Nuendo 12/13/14 Pro (R2R/VR) (Win/MAC) workarounds, discussion, etc | AudioSEX - Professional Audio Forum
anyhow I am copying again what has been deeply discussed there many times:

after you have all R2R's tools (silk emu + root certificate) installed
you can download Cubase or any Steinberg app/library from official site* (or downloader app) and install, then do this trick:

    -copy file "licence-engine-access.dll" from "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\TEAM R2R \"
    -past it to "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\Activation Manager\" and replace

you have to do the copy-paste every time install something new or updates,
it works with updates also, no need to wait for R2R's modded versions**

*UNTIL the silk protection is updated obviously

**ANYHOW it is always better to install R2R's modded version when released.

They do this so that their tech support only have to deal with users on the same OS versions they have available for them to test with.

It also helps a lot, in true SB fashion; to narrow the amount of problems they have to accept responsibility for fixing. This way when it is crashing and they can't figure it out, they can focus on blaming third-party plugin developers. MacOS does not provide enough excuses for their finger-pointing requirements. :)
