I installed both about 8 months ago but didn't get a chance to use it much, and my system has been wiped since so I can't really remember if keygen-based plugins will work.

Also, does this solution also work for Pro Tools on a Mac?

 

Any plugins which authorize without being patched will work on *any* version of PT. The only version of PT which accepts patched plugins is the AU version, or the unlocked R2R version. The snag with the R2R unlocked version is that it requires a legit PT license and the AU version doesn't.

If you need a PT version newer than the AU release, you need a legit license. If you need patched plugs in a version higher the the AU release then you can't use anything higher than 2021.7 R2R *or* you have to use a legit or non-patched version of a VST host inside a legit version of PT.

In other words: Any plugs which use keygens, serial, or emulated authorizer engines (ie Waves) which remain unmodified (no cracks or patches) will work in PT versions which require a legit license. Cracked/patched plugs only work in PT AU, PT R2R, or within a non-cracked VST host.

So anything using keygens will work in any of the newer legit PT versions and not just 2021.7, but anything that requires a patch or modified files can only be done up to 2021.7 with the R2R unlocker? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding.

Typically, yes.

However, some releases have a keygen but they are also patched, and those will not work on anything newer than PT R2R. But if they are pure keygens then they are essentially legit, so they will work on any version of PT (legit, AU, or R2R).

K'd PT 12 works, no problem.

Anything higher including K'd PT 2021 needs legit iLok license to work at all. The only benefit to K'd PT 2021 is the access to K'd plugins and nothing else.
BUT there is a patcher in where you possibly can use a PT First license (which is prob discontinued) to have Studio/Ultimate qualities, I believe. But from what I remember, it's not stable enough to suffice a proper workflow.

This is correct. The R2R PT 2021 was either for legit licenses (yeah, pretty useless) or the protools first license (a free thing given out by AVID at the time) which was toast after a couple of months once AVID figured out what was up... At this point it's all water under the bridge and useless.

 

Guys, let's hope we get a new Pro Tools one day, because 2021 R2R is not an option (it's not a release), and 12.5 HD is too old and unstable. Don't be fooled, it works fine at first, but as soon as the session gets more and more clogged, PT immediately becomes CPU unstable and unusable. In fact, the CPU instability issues were fixed in version 12.8

Yes - It is inevitable that a newer PT needs to be released onto the scene - hopefully soon.

I have been running v12.5 HD for years without issues. However, it does follow along with even the newest versions of PT being absolutely useless when it comes to dealing with MIDI. But then most folks that are familiar with PT are not using it for MIDI tracking anyway.

It's less useful, but it's not useless at all. If you have a legit license then it lets you use all sorts of stuff natively that you can't otherwise use. Bluecat is a workaround, yes, but it doesn't perform the same as native AAX which PT R2R allows.

It's more up-to-date than PT AU, so it's a better choice if you want maximum k'd plugs and also have a legit PT license.

I do realize that kind of use is a bit more fringe than the standard cracks people expect, but it still has value.

 

Looking at my R2R unlocker folder, it doesn't seem that there is a Mac version. Do you know if k'd/patched plugins will work with 2021.7 on Mac as well? Also this is probably a dumb question, but does the R2R unlocker literally only work with R2R releases? And is it the absolute only way to get the plugins working with PT 2021.7?

 

Not too many fit that criteria and I would assume a lot of those that do probably have legit licenses that get them updates to the latest stuff anyway. But yeah, I see your point. It would be a cold day in hell before I ever bought a legit license to anything like that...

 

That version of PT is history. I have it, but I don't even use it anymore, and yes, you can use patched AAX plugins with it.

 

Did you read the NFO file for that R2R release?
"PLATFORM : WiN64" <---- That means not for macOS, and without that extra R2R support, those kinds of plugs will not operate.

The only way to get modified plugs working in PT 2021.7 is to use the R2R patch on a Windows machine, *or* use the VST of a k'd plug in an unmodified VST hosting plug which can run legitimately in PT.

The crack scene as a whole slowly but steadily is declining for some years now...

 

We need a newer version, but I highly doubt we'll ever see one........IMHO
