I am network engineer, software engineers always tell you what you said. Yes I know MS has improved somethings but the UI is crap.
If I wanted a UI to look like a MAC I would get a MAC. Yes I know you can tweak it.
But how about a switch that asks you what style of menus you would like. I guess those smart software engineers didn't think of that.
Linux gives you many more desktop UI how come MS can't give you 2?

and then we saw how Linux had a malicious payload in the xz package, if you missed that.

It does you're right. When it works. In the hands of a total noob though, it is all a bit hit and miss.

I don't care about ending update support. Last Update I've installed was 4½ years ago and then I disabled
them completely using policies and everything still works like a charm. For more recent versions of Windows
I use VMware Workstation, which I also use to run Linux and MacOS.

What drives me crazy about updates is: bloatware like some windows apps that I removed from the windows image
are getting reinstalled after some time. Thats apps like the shitty Defender or background processes for telemetry
and data collection and since I'm too lazy to remove them again and again, I just disabled all updates.

I mean you can disable them as well using policies so Windows update doesn't touch them but with some mature
version updates, some of those policies are getting removed or replaced by others.

The way I update my OS is by installing an updated custom windows image every few years
with almost every bloatware, ads and defender removed + updates disabled by default.

I do like boring OS. The more boring the better! I'm just not interested in my OSses complaints :dunno:
If you don't like boring OSes use MacOS. It's always interesting what softwaretitles won't work after an upgrade. And it's shiny and colorful and always has a nice name. Possibly they should call it CuteOS.
That's what I call an interesting OS

Fun aside: Shouldn't be an OS boring by definition? It should serve the Applications the best it can and be transparent for the user.
From this perspective Linux etc is the most boring OS isn't it. And the best.

My Win 7 music PC is forever offline without updates for a few years, no need for updated software either as it works beautifully for my needs. Why spoil a good thing. I do have a dual boot Win 10-7 PC when I'm trying out new plugins, one day I'll switch to Zorin, Mint or some other OS. For now I'm fine with what I have.

@Sylenth.Will.Fall You are right, when it works everything is OK, it is worse when something breaks :bleh: on the other hand there is always someone who will help solve the problem on Linux forums :guru:

This is all absolute b.s.. Lets just take it point for point shall we.

Firstly the difference between telemetry, spy/ad/junkware from 22H2 to present is significant. Anyone who has gone from win10 to 11 can attest to this. I do not know who you're trying to fool here but a lot of the folks here are not newb's and can see right thru it. What mickeysoft "allows" you to turn off is a joke and some of it simply runs the same functions under the hood regardless.

Whenever you see the word "optimum performance" from mickeysoft there is cause to beware. Because with what little might actually be optimized there is always something else being shoveled in under the radar somewhere.

"PC manager" ??? Another piece of bloatware and (in keeping with the ms bloatware model) tying in a whole unnecessary rats nest of code to support it, doing a very singular and uncomplicated task that "msconfig" has been performing for the last 2 decades.

A word about the "so-called debloating tools" - Yes there are a few of these tools that do still work (for the most part) on the lesser versions of win10 before the mickeysoft "fuck you" security level was put into place on 22H2+. However most of these tools cannot deal with the hardened sec level and do not provide the same functions they were designed for initially. Hopefully many of the tools can be updated to work with the hardened win versions but for now for a lot of the garbage ware and telemetry that has been stuffed into win10 22H2 and above manual removal is the only reliable way to get rid of the lot of it.

Here we go with the "deep technical knowledge" b.s. once again. Anyone telling you that you should simply accept and embrace the corporate spyware model not only has a lack of knowledge of the tech involved used to invade your privacy but would also tell you that you're perfectly safe allowing corporations to be all up in your business.

    that's all...

Windoze 13 will burn off a layer of skin to be certain you're not wearing a prosthetic device to get around the biometrics - as well you'll need an under-the-skin implant in order to install it.

Yeah, everyone is a fool, and you are smart. Let's trust you. Why don't rewrite Windows from scratch in Python? You're a Giga 100X developer. I'll be your first customer.

I daily drive Ubuntu with KDE for all my tasks except for Music, which I use Windows 11 for. Linux is behind the game when it comes to professional music production. Many plugins and tools are not supported.
Actually, based on my experience, Windows 11 is much more reliable than Desktop Linux. There's no need for the Jack Audio fiasco. Nvidia drivers just work out of the box, and you don't have to deal with installing Wine to get the VSTs working. Multiple monitors work on Windows without any issues, and there's no need to care about Wayland and X11. Apps just work even if they are decades old.

Not everyone is a fool... Seems hyperbole just follows you around everywhere. Personally I could care less about your nonsensical ramblings one way or the other. But when I see corporate b.s. being slung as "facts" it compels one to tell the full story rather than leave it as a one-sided hyperbolic view of the capitalistic corporate playpen...Please go profess your love of corporate espionage somewhere else.

buh bye now. and have a WONDERFUL day.

I'm not going to get in between you two, but if you type into Google, How many 3rd party companies do Microsoft sell data to..

    This is what comes up:-

According to the Official Microsoft Blog, 95% of Microsoft's commercial revenue comes from its partner ecosystem. Microsoft also has over 7,500 new partners joining its ecosystem each month.

With that in mind, do you think Microsoft has the time, or the inclination to vet all these partners?

This is data coming from it's users.

Update:- I typed it in again and got a different answer.. now it's saying 801.

Microsoft is a swell bunch of guys and couple gals too, they love computing and love making our lives easier. The whole Clippy thing was an accident. a commissioned investigation found that Clippy slipped and fell into the well and was def not pushed...
Sure they said WindowsXP would be the last version of windows, and Vista would be the last version of Windows, and Windows & would be the last version of windows, no wait WIndows 8 (metro for hip young guys and gals new to the computing scence) will be the last windows, NO wait WIndows9 will be the last version (oops we just skipped that one so we could catch up with OSX ((X is 10 in Latin which is very hip)) - No wait Windows 10 will be the last version, I mean no definitely Windows 12 will be last.

Its just Lucy and Charlie Brown and fucking football getting pulled every time he gets ready to kick it.

Just keep paying for this turd and eventually we''ll get it fixed, though you still need to leave updates turned on to change and modify shit that you have no clue about, sure its your computer but we f*(cking own and don't forget it..

Why do people tolerate such bullshit, well most are just apathetic due to doom scrolling all day long, and the tiny percent who actually understand whats going on - well they moved on long ago. Now its just pyschos and enablers stealing your money and data all day long and a tiny tiny group of fan boys drooling over a new drop - most of whom are either "influencers" (modern word for paid shill) and journalists but they are also paid shilled.

The average user could give a fuck and believes all the bullshit because why fight the flow... dude..

Charlie Brown is you (the user)
Lucy is Microsoft (big brother et al)
The football is windows (an operating system that has morphed into cancer)

Of course there is a sh1t load to respond to in your text, but then me being the child I am, what am I going to focus on?

YESSSS of course!!!! Have you ever noticed that whenever Charlie Brown falls for Lucy's ball manoeuvres, he only ever falls AFTER she's taken the ball away, (Except the one and only time in the last example) which would mean he'd fall over regardless of whether or not he scored a goal.. Or whatever the American equivalent of a goal is!

We all know that the changes that are taking place in Windows are worrisome and Microsoft's business model is moving towards data trading.
It makes me wonder why plugin developers don't see this or don't want to see it?
If all the plug-ins you need ran on Linux would you consider changing to a modular, customizable system or continue to stick with Windows?

A quick search on Shodan shows thousands of people still use XP, this increases exponentially with windows 7.

I use Linux for work purposes, but I won’t shift to Linux for audio production yet. I love Linux, but it’s a tool I use for specific purposes.

    unfortunately you are quite right...

App dev's follow the $$$. They could care less about how or where the OS's come from. They are only concerned with making their stuff work with whatever system yields them the most profit - i.e. currently apple and windoze. If there was a viable alternative to winbloze I would have jumped on it long ago. However *NIX is not my idea of an "easier" system by any means. And I would also guess that IF *NIX started to become mainstream, some piece of shit corporation would claim it as theirs and all the bullshit starts over once again.

There are only a few real reasons to run win OS - 1.) It's malleable. It may be a POS out of the box, yes, but it can be made safe to use online and offline for getting work done. 2.) It's free - run a script and voila... activated! 3.) the warez are plentiful and are easier to implement for the most part compared to apple. When any one or all of these points becomes extinct so does windows... For me at least...
