    Hi,

I've been deep in the audio game for a long time, but brand new to kontakt and would appreciate some guidance :)

I have an m1 mac, monterey, logic, and am using a few k'd libs and k'd kontakt 7.

My 2TB internal drive is almost full, and I'm realizing everyone just uses external drives for their library files.

Does anyone have any insight in how to move existing libraries to an external drive? Or do they need to be installed from the external initially? I'm sure someone has answered this before, so if someone knows the thread and could link me, I would be very grateful !

Also, do all libraries have to be in one place? ie. could I have one kontakt instrument on my internal for travel, and a bunch more on an external?

    Appreciate the people on here!

    Hello all,
I have the exact same situation like farcaster above. Any suggestion on how to relocate the installed Kontakt libraries from internal Macbookpro HD to external SSD?
    Thanks in advance.

To both of you, Kontakt is one of the only things i do actually use cracked versions of (and subsequently my almost 1 TB sized archive on Kontakt libraries accumulated over the years) what I've done that has caused me zero issues the whole time has been installing the Kontakt standalone itself (not the VST/AAX/AU) on the same external drive as my kontakt libraries and sample libraries etc. I then also keep the KLU (Kontakt Library Utility) and Library Scripts applications on that same drive as well and do all library installation, NICNT Creation, wallpapers, checking the libraries themselves, etc. straight from the drive so then the only kontakt files that are on my main boot drive (computer) are the Kontakt Plugins themselves and then the like application support/resources.

If you don't already have a legit version of Kontakt on your main OS drive and it's just the K'd version it's really just as simple as moving the Kontakt 7 Application to external drive as well as the libraries.

Oh, also just to streamline everything (and it made it smoother for me) I would make the file path on the external drive similar to what it would be (for example all my kontakt libraries are in my external drive with folder structure "Users > Shared > xxxxxxxx " where xxxxx = all the kontakt libraries and just make an "Applications" folder on the external drive and place the Native Instruments folder that contains Kontakt 7 Standalone.

Yes I know a few of these steps are redundant but I've never had 1 issue that wasn't because of library incompatibility or something of the sort and not anything on my end.

With KLU 2, and perhaps I've been extra cautious with new system and wanting consistency, when moving sample libraries that require KLU etc, I always uninstall them via KLU2 (perhaps not necessary, but mitigates confusion with multiple locations showing in audit or NICNT utility in Kontakt (I'm still using v7 HCiSO latest btw), then add them again via KLU2.

Takes longer obviously, but seems to create less possible problems I have experienced when not.
