I can't find this driver anywhere on the internet. There was a UCM Client Peripheral Driver 1.3.8.17 released on 10/09/2024 at 3.27MB apparently, but can't find the one you mention?!

You have mentioned returning the MSI board. Thus the recommendations for a different one that should perform more reliably.

Are any drivers flagged in Device Manager? Looking for indication of missing or incorrect drivers.

The problem is between the board, possible Bios settings, Windows settings & drivers. Some examples:
    • Basic BIOS setting not being done before Windows is launched for first time
    • Windows not always installing correctly (initial corruption). Fix is a wipe & fresh install.
    • Windows forcing drivers from it's install cache or Updates download overwriting dev drivers unless changed in system settings
    • Wrong or older driver(s) causing conflict
    • faulty USB cables or, cables not fully USB 3/4 compliant (think true Thunderbolt cable for reliable connection)
    • faulty or, cables not fully compliant DisplaPort/HDMI cables (glitchy video, display going dark, etc...)
    • service that is a dependency for another service is not running or installed
    • Being connected with auto started background services connecting externally(telemetry) or updating (Steam, Splice, etc...)
    • Unneeded Windows defender features or running
    • Cloud-delivered protection
    • Automatic sample submission
    • Tamper Protection
Then there is the issue of a new product being DOA or faulty out of the box. This is a common occurrence in electronic repairs where time is wasted determining what can be warranted & what has to be handle via RMA (from experience as a repair tech).

I too feel a bit burnt going from a tried and true i7-4790k to an AMD 3900x. I will likely go back to Intel in the coming months.
Theres just weird AMD-isms. My power settings would change randomly. waking up from sleep was iffy. That said, this week I did a clean install and its been much better.

My tip: Install the latest chipset driver (completely new).
    Restart.
First of all: update the BIOS Perform a BIOS reset, then activate XMP and leave everything else on Auto for now.

Back in Windows, activate a Ryzen energy saving plan (e.g. High Performance) If the cooling is then correct (check with Ryzen Master), the CPU should behave as expected.

I have an entire thread about it at MSI's Forums with all the screenshots and errors, USB Tree View output, Device Manager errors etc. It just seems like a mess, and MSI Customer Support is like 1 email every 4 days with 1 or 2 basic troubleshooting scripts.

    - already on the beta BIOS as per MSI's advice to try as a solution
    - XHCI Hand Off has been disabled already and tried and makes no difference
    - already have latest AMD Chipset drivers installed, and tried the not-so-latest ones that are the ones provided by MSI with the board
    - already done a plethora of tweaks
    - this is a fresh install of Windows 11 Pro 24H2, and have tried about 7 or 8 reinstalls at least, varying between 24H2 and 23H2 to see if any different

You can see the issue and all the steps I've taken so far here, which go beyond what I've included in this forum: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/x870e-carbon-wifi-motherboard-serious-issues.404649/

And here is a video of the issue happening and this happens across all USB A ports, be it motherboard rear panel ones or the front case panel connected via motherboard header:

I have the 14900K with 64GB of DDR5 RAM @ 6400 MT/s. I'm using it for music production, it can handle all of my heavy orchestral templates and I don't have any problems with it, especially after the new microcode update (0x12B) which fixed voltage problems without dropping performance.
24 cores/32 threads and the size of L1/L2 cache are quite good for music production and any other tasks for creators.
The only bad point is heat and power consumption (253W TDP), but if you have a good 360/420 mm AIO or custom liquid cooler you'll be fine with it.

Man Bunford, what madness, maybe we should make a film about it

AMD has released an updated chipset driver in version 6.05.28.016, which, in addition to initial support for Windows 11 24H2, also fixes minor bugs in two packages. These include the PSP and USB4 drivers. It is not clear from the release notes which bugs have been fixed.

Unknown USB Device Device Descriptor Request Failed

The solutions below can be tried to fix the error.

    1. Reinstall the USB driver.
Press Windows + X and open the Device Manager > Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Right-click on the USB device which is not being recognized by Windows and select Properties > Click Uninstall > After that, visit the brand manufacturer's official website and download the latest version of the driver and install it.

    2. Disable Fast Startup.
Open the Control Panel and set the view mode as big icons > Click on Power Options > Select Choose what the power buttons do in the left pane > Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable > Under Shutdown settings, uncheck the box next to Turn on fast startup (recommended) > Then click on the Save changes button > Restart your PC.

    3. Change Settings of USB Root Hub.
Press Windows + X and open the Device Manager > Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Right-click on USB Root Hub and click Properties > Shift to the Power Management tab > Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power and click OK.

    4. Check and repair disks.
Type: cmd from the Windows search box > Right-click on Command Prompt and click Run as administrator > In the open command prompt window, enter: chkdsk C: /f /r [C: refers to the drive letter of the system disk, you can change the drive letter according to the actual location where the application is installed] > Hit Enter key to run the command.

    Error 0x800701B1 RtkMicUUn64.dll

[Guide] Fix error 0x800701B1 on Windows 11/10

Here are possible reasons why error code 0x800701B1 may occur on your Windows PC:

◐ Changes in file or folder ownership result in restricted access.
◐ Attempting to transfer a file larger than 4 GB to a FAT32 disk.
◐ The drive is write-protected or inread-only mode.
◐ The presence of a computer virus affects the target hard drive or encrypted files.
◐ Too many peripherals are connected to your PC.
◐ Connect the external drive to a USB 2.0 port instead of USB 3.0.
◐ Using the universal driver for external drives.
◐ Not enough free space on the drive.
◐ System limitations hinder the file transfer process.

Is there any way to do a fresh Windows install and block the updates during installation or driver updates during the installation? Wondering if there is a way for me to test them pre and post-installing the AMD Chipset and Realtek drivers.

After installation, I would turn off the internet connection - i.e. unplug it and install the drivers from the CD ROM provided or download the older, first released drivers from the manufacturer's website. So uninstall the drivers in the device manager.

Realtek USB Ethernet Controller Driver Download

The Realtek USB Ethernet Controller Driver is a complete driver package and installs the appropriate network driver for all USB LAN adapters, USB hubs and USB docking stations with Realtek Ethernet LAN controller. Manual installation (for example via INF file) should only be carried out by experienced users.

The driver @stopped posted is here:
    https://www.driverscloud.com/en/ser...ient-peripheral-driver-v13817-win11-64-bitzip
But hey, it is impossible that USB ports won't work at all, unless the board is partly DOA. Start from BIOS with a Win bootable usb stick, does it work there? If it does, then you somehow messed up during installation and have to fix or even format the effin thing. If it doesn't work even from BIOS boot then your board is faulty and not a matter of Win11 or drivers etc. Cheers mate

What now? Do you want to exchange the motherboard or do without a few connections? Wait for new drivers?

They do "work" though. The USB flash drives and devices are detected and work fine in BIOS and in Windows installation setup, but they just stop working once in Windows and keep disconnecting like the above video rendering them all unusable. And I've tried on a fresh install with updates applied during installation, fresh offline install so no updates happen, with official MSI suggested drivers, with Windows Updates updating drivers, even tried updating drivers via IObit Driver Booster to see if it pick anything up (all on different and fresh new separate bare installs).

With Intel only just releasing the microcode to fix the 14xxx issues relating to voltage and heat etc, I'm not willing to wait a year until potentially something like that is needed to fix this fundamental flaw, so I'm partial to return and instead get a 7950X and an ASUS X670E Crosshair Hero I've seen locally. Even both together will only be about £50 more than the price I paid for the 9950X alone, and probably yield similar performance for my use case.....

....if the 7950X and X670E work out of the box and don't give me a bunch of other issues

I've been troubleshooting this for over a week by now, and all of this has been done more than once during that week+.

I 've built this exact config. Bios is a bitch navigating it, I posted elsewhere when i made that build the mobo kept training the ram over and over and i spent half an hour or so reading the manual to find what cryptic name they gave to this particular function in order to disable it. In case you didn't know, ram training is supposed to happen once, after that it's not needed unless you upgrade sticks at some point. So in order to disable the constant memory training i had to go through the Bios path, Extreme Tweaker - DRAM Timing Control - Memory Context Restore -> Enabled. Which actually disables the mem training which is kind of hilarious because instead of a clear indication of "mem training disabled" you actually enable something else haha.
Apart from that, the Hero mobo is built like a tank and has the best price to features ratio from all high end boards. USB40gbps/Thunderbolt work fine too. Client had 8 ch UAD Apollo interfaces.
    Cheers

This is what's making me think to go down this route instead. Feature-wise, the mobo and back panel/connections has virtually everything the MSI X870 Carbon WiFi has, with the exception of WiFi 7.
