didn't want to make another AI thread, so here's a reminder on why you shouldn't trust companies and online services, even if you do "nothing wrong":

What if you do everything wrong? Will a Vpn be enough?

Before you do everything wrong, better do nothing.
Don't book a data plan with your provider and only use your phone as local storage like in the nineties. That's OK, no one really needs a phone with internet connection for his life.

I do think privacy matters but none of these would apply to me so it's totally unconvincing. My kids are grown, plus I wouldn't have uploaded naked pictures of them to the internet, for any reason. None of my computers are doing facial scans. My Facebook account is literally a pic of a meme, fake name, with zero friends. I don't drive a Tesla, or any car with interior cameras, not sure what that has to do with browsing habits. I don't book, well anything online.

All I do online is this, forums, social media, some youtube, with fake names, linked to throwaway emails. It's been a couple decades and surprisingly google sill hasn't got my location right.

    Technology Paternalism

This is not an award for a single candidate, but a pointer to a larger problem: Technology that patronises us, nannies us und unnerves with a know-it-all attitude, that takes decisions away from people, observes them continually, and will not allow deviations, exceptions, let alone individualism. It sanctions us with punishing beeps, snitching to governments or even by refusing to work.

A large part the problem with privacy is the large amount of bogus information flying around about privacy protection. "Learning" about real privacy protections and using common sense about them should not be debilitating in any way. The problems start with every monkey in the free world making idiotic videos spreading paranoid delusions that other monkeys pick up on and in turn make more idiotic videos. It is entirely possible to take steps toward protecting privacy without becoming a basket case. Just deal with it as it comes and quit worrying about what some paranoid delusional monkey on ZooTube says about your situation which they haven't clue about.

Rob Braxman is the online-privacy expert; he has lots of very informative videos about it:

    https://odysee.com/@RobBraxmanTech:6?view=content

I deleted my Instagram account and the app itself from my iPhone when in December, 2020, IG/Meta changed its ToS to say that, by logging-in to the platform, I was consenting to letting the company scan the device on which you were using it for my contacts, text messages, e-mails, and other content, and to analyze it all to assess whether I were a "threat to public safety" (whatever could have been meant by that), as well as all windows of open apps and the names of the software installed on the device, as well as information about the devices concurrently using the same network. And so on. Nothing I could do, however, about IG's reading and analyzing text messages and e-mails I had sent to people with IG accounts on their mobile devices – no way could I know to consent to that.

It might surprise people to know how many apps help themselves (with users' consent) to such information. Not to mention the info-harvesting that companies might not mention in their ToS. If not the companies, then the NSA or some such.

Gave up Google products in 2018 when I learned "I was the product." And surprisingly, my life did not spiral into madness because no Google Maps/Docs/Gmail.

Corporations have ruined the online experience. Younger gens think this sh*t is normal/ok, so no resistance.

I learned how to root Android devices to take my phone back from Google long ago. Yeah, I know...whatever. Bottom line, with root, I have full control over the data flow both in and out of my devices. There are no ads systemwide in my phone/tablet. A good root firewall and common sense = no ransomware/malware/etc.

Without root, it's Samsung/Google's phone. With root, it's my phone. I am admin/sudo of all my devices.

I'm a Windows 10 since forever user, always local account, never had an MS acct, debloated down to an 85GB install (Very good for consumer-grade Windows). Block all I/O traffic (Must ask first) except for semi-hardened Firefox. No ads systemwide, no Onedrive, no cloud services, no Defender, no auto updates, No biometrics, no error reporting, no keylogging, no talking. All wrapped around a VPN to keep ISP in the dark.

Gave up Facebook in 2019...Tried it, didn't 'Get' it. I've never had Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc. Glad I dodged those time-suck diversions, because it's sad how once rational people are now hunched over staring at pure fuckery for hours at a time. And they would rather die than quit. Thanks big Data!

Firefox/Scriptsafe/uBlock = Internet and Youtube with no ads...what ads? I violate Google airspace every day.

Ever since I found out what a CDN, campaign, telemetry, firebase, analytics, appmeasurement, and dailymetricsloggerservice was, I resent allowing data to be removed from my devices unless allowed.

I have nothing to hide...I also have nothing I wish to share.
