dont bother it has a super big memory leak, it will crash your DAW. the leak was never fixed for windows due to Hartmann went bankrupt on the hardware version of it.

In 2001 I was in synth and piano hiatus, so I missed it.
However I always like to learn.
Here an interview with the creator:

User further up in the thread said a second instance, and deleting the first was a workaround. We have many tricks in 2024 that did not exist in 2002. What about something simple like Audiogridder or VM with something like a fixed quota of memory?
Someone already pointed out above, that would crash DAW on an old machine very quickly; but there was not much buffer to fill back then. Maybe it is just a curse that could be lifted. Or the new Bypass Everything Technology could fix it.
(I do not even use Windows, so please do not consider this some kind of a request.)

The sound of neuron is uncompelling. I made a sound that came out great, but it was one of maybe a hundred. The sound of Neuron you will find, lacks definition. Not literally, but from a sound design pov. You're always ALWAYS fighting a 'mushiness'. Neuron is an unfinished megamind idea. They should only be respected, the team that made it. Extremely ambitious.

No one asked, but imho go with Chromophone to cover this sort of territory.

so far i know the adressed memory by the plugin will just rise and if its full it will crash the DAW. A guess is that if you limit the memory the plugin will start to overwrite its own adressed memory?

Ofc it wont crash the DAW like Bitwig with its sandboxing, but it will be annoying to work with it. And is this really worth it?!
    Im doubting.

If you are on macOS you can however install an older version of your OS and use a fixed build. Sadly this was never done for the windows build - i mean we could still use on windows 11 without problems i assume.

@arcticstorm, I have a Mac thing laptop I run windows on, but it's a backup computer, and I gave serious thought to running the mac version of Neuron on it (reformatting the system and going back to mac os)

Keep in mind it is a 32bit vst plugin. On the site it says it will run in old Audio Hijack, with less little notes and exceptions than the others on the list. I'll try it without getting any hopes up.

I got this working on Mac based on the instructions, using AudioHijack 2.old version. 20 years later and it's still terrible, even without the memory leak. Jbridge said thanks, but no thanks.

When the hardware came out of the factory, parts fell off during transport. When it arrived in the USA, an editor unpacked it and immediately wrote a review about the broken parts that were in the box. This led to complaints and negative reviews in the press. Eventually, Mr. Hartmann ran out of money and was insolvent or broke... . There were a few interviews and Mr. Hartmann was pretty nervous, but he has since recovered.

I know what you were talking about GluBloB!
And some still exist today and sometimes end up on eBay.

Maybe Arturia will buy Mr. Hartmann's concept at some point and release a Neuron as software! What do you think the chances are? Maybe Behringer too?

Those prices are for a copy of the VST plugin and the Nuke controller, which is not much more than an Xbox controller. Not to take anything away from the Xbox controller; they were using those to control the submarine that imploded on the way to view the Titanic wreck. And look how that turned out.

The last Neuron synth/keyboard I saw for sale, someone had it listed for $14,000. Maybe that is for tax write-off purposes for when they donate it to a museum.
