I can’t afford Ableton upgrades I’m on 10 suite and 12 lite Live is a cash grab these days
It’s really sad how much the charge for upgrades I wish it was more affordable but alas it is not

They ruined Acid Pro at v4 to me. They started moving from the speed of v3 towards a more "DAW-like" program after that. At that point, I ended up just going back to FL for beatmaking, and mixing in Cubase. If you want something that fast, maybe you should try Renoise. You could still mix in REAPER.

Registered user since 1998. As soon as i got my hands on that Acid pH1 took me about a week's consideration to start selling the majority of my samplers hehe. But that's another story.
Now that's a good one. I completely disagree and with everybody else that says so too. Although i don't put negative ratings there, because it's how i roll. So.
If one thing's sure, Magix has done right to Acid, they had more and serious upgrades to the soft in 6 years than Sony did in 13 years. They brought it to the present, so to speak. 64bit, VST3, easy Sidechaining, Sampler track, a comprehensive bundle of free plugs, all is Magix.
Sony did nothing but procrastinate with their hands up their ass constantly. When Sony bought the soft, Sonic Foundry was almost ready to roll out the major MIDI/ VST instruments feature for the upcoming Acid 5 and turn it to a DAW, but there was no time since the IPs were sold. It actually took Sony 3 years to bring these in Acid 6 with Midi and VSTi and then they were too busy rolling out Vegas versions each year and Acid was abandoned. They also abandoned the really revolutionary for the time AcidPlanet.com giving way to "entities" like Splice to materialize and actually become major players in the audio loops community and not only.
So i am sorry, Magix Acid is the best Acid ever. It can be quirky sometimes with some random VSTi but if you are an Acid user, it has always been like that. And actually there comes a time when all DAWs wilI crash, especially on Windows hehe. I actually find Acid more stable than it ever was and although i do own Cubase and Cakewalk and Live, Acid is my goto when i create something new. Its workflow is second to none.
Now i read things like "they didn't bother change the settings" hehe. So this is a problem right? Not needed, pass. What is needed is a full and proper color palette. Some mixer enhancements. Deeper resolution for audio editing and MPE/MIDI 2.0 to name a few.
Anyway the only other alternative is Ableton Live. Which actually was inspired by Acid, i remember Live's creators admitting in 2001 they wanted to make something like Acid that you can play live like a sampler. Great idea actually and they now reap what they 've sown in the best way possible.
Finally for anyone having problems facing crashes etc., but wants to work with AcidPro, feel free to pm me and i will give you all the help possible.
    Y'all be well

Although they might be more stable but the problem with the older version of Acid such as 5,6,7 is that the sound engine absolutely sucks, I've compared them to Cubase, Huge difference.

how many plugins do you throw at it? I use it to create a track using samples, tweaking cross fades beats etc. when I get a track I like I export it. then I can massage it in whatever I like. You can mute/solo and export drums, synths etc as stems to use in other DAWs.

There is no perfect DAW, despite what the Software Developers tell you. Its whatever fits your workflow.

I'm using Acid Pro Version 8, build 143 64bit - its a VR release. dated 2018. I use it cause its 64bit. Fraid its the latest version I've tried. I've got some others downloaded, just haven't had a reason to install them yet. Windows 7 8gb of ram on a Dell Laptop, seems pretty stable for me.

I've mainly been experimenting with taking things around and about through reaper, Ableton, and acid, just to see what kind of a flow I can create.

Apart from the list of fine freebies on the previous page, Live Lite can be had for a few eurobucks, get Koala Sampler (iOS/Android) and you get a free license. It's a very good sampler as well.

Bitwig Studio, Reaper, Tracktion Waveform13 (free).

At $60 U.S., Reaper offers the best performance per dollar out there. Worth at least twice the asking price for a personal license. If you wish not to pay for software, your options are very limited other than eternal piracy. Good Devs deserve some love for their hard work.

Sonar is now a paid product again. Cakewalk is still free but, is now discontinued. From Cakewalk site:
    • While Cakewalk by BandLab will continue to receive essential maintenance updates, no new feature development is planned, as we prioritize advancements in Cakewalk Sonar and Cakewalk Next. Learn more about our exciting, new desktop music production tools.

Most of the early versions were 32bit, plus a big point of Acid was it's "timestretch everything" workflow. The same people who will point to this sort of argument will be the first to say that the different timestretch algorithms in the same DAW sound noticeably different.

FWIW i went from sony acid 4 to ableton back in the day. Once i learned the key commands and workflow I adapted my way of producing with ableton in about a month.

Did anyone that suggested Reaper actually use any incarnation of ACID Pro?? Closest thing would be Ableton Live or maybe Bitwig (never used it myself). Of everything I've used Ableton Live is the only DAW even remotely close to ACID Pro. Reaper works nothing like it aside from the fact they can both import audio, have a mixer and an arrangement. If you rely on ACIDs ability to instantly 'acidify' and loop a sample, set the number of beats/time stretch/etc, go with Live, you'll be almost right at home.

Hmmm. Algorithms are different in every daw and they alter audio. But once you start with algos and summing and time stretching etc etc, we 're not talking about just audio, we 're talking about processed audio. Now audio files in Acid can be 3 different things. Either loops or beat mapped tracks or one shots. The first two get a stretch algo so they comply with tempo (and master key too). One shot files do not get any algorithm imposed on them. It's digital audio straight to master output, so to speak. Users have a choice of how the audio files they import or drag in will be treated. And this stands from the very beginning when Acid was just loops and one shots in Acid 1 if my memory doesn't let me down.
    So to sum it.
25+ yrs i hear people nagging this and that about Acid or even Fruity Loops would get a similar treatment. Me, i just laugh because i know what's the score. Point is, if your goal is to make music, you will, even if it 's with a fucking tape recorder and a guitar. If you are an uninspired "sad" person you will never achieve anything significant and it will usually be everything else to blame but yourself. Too many times the last 20 yrs or more have i seen people who can't make one single proper song but they swear on their soft 's quality, a fact that ranges from hilarious to annoying depending who it's coming from. Personally, i don't idolize anything and i have tried and used almost everything in the 40 years i make music since i got my first 4 track recorder and sequencer soon after. They 're all tools and they are supposed to be treated as such.
    Cheers

Everything you do within the DAW will be different, no matter what. If I produce a track in Cubase, it will not end up the same as if I did it in Logic. It doesn't really matter. It's going to sound like my 2 bus. And maybe whatever it gets re-loaded into after the initial DAW session production is complete.

I used to see those "every daw sounds the same threads" and never wanted to bother joining the debate about it, because I thought they contained people who knew what they were talking about. Comparison of algos, the DAW mixer, timestretching/warping, summing, all of those things which contribute to the end productions' sound. If all I do is simply disable "High Precision Summing" setting in Logic, it will make my mix sound different; even if just ever so slightly.

Then I realized one day, the entire topic was being constantly discussed and pushed by a group of people who want to say "My $50 DAW sounds just like your Expensive DAW". (read: developers, and maybe some children; not producers). Yes, your free wave file player sounds identical to Protools playing the same file.

    It's a pointless discussion.
