I come from an earlier generation and learned programming in Basic on a Commodore PET (Personal Electronic Transactor) at the University of Calgary around 1981.

I learned Basic and MLX on them what fond memories of those early days. Basically this is just a laptop housed in a C-64 shaped case, nothing much more, just a nostalgic appearance.

Yeah. Only the OS is interesting. And thats also the only thing this guy in the video is excited about.

Save yourself some £832.80 to buy this pc in an ugly Commodore64 look-a-like case with John Travolta disco dancefloor blinking LEDs just to give you this feeling of owning a brand new "Commodore 64". I just prefer to use my original Commodore C64. Thank you.

I thought there were emulators on modern OSs to run Commodore software, so you could just play those old games on your mac or windows pc.
I'm not sure about the tape reader though.

I still have my original C64 bought in 1983, and a datasette-drive, a diskdrive, and (hopefully working) floppies and a few tapes.
I started programming Basic when I was 15. - I even made a super early tracker-like music program back then. - Good times!

If I had the money I would buy it, for now I play on a cheap HP SFF with Linux Mint as the operating system, unfortunately I sold my Commodore C64 in 1999 :bleh:

When I first saw this and started watching the video I was like "Holy Cow" and super excited, but I was left a bit deflated to see emulators running on it, we have that already in abundance. Then watching the video all the way through and realising It's just basically a PC in a C64 case and the mother board used in the C64 in the video is no longer available according to their website where they state the "Retro Recipe's motherboard is now no longer available."

£832.80 for a PC that looks like a C64 but really isn't is a whole lot of nickels and dimes.

If this was a straight up revised original authentic C64, I'd be in the queue giving them my money.

Me too coming from an earlier generation and learned programming in Bi-quinary coded decimal on a Abacus (also called a counting frame) at the local Cathedral around 1400, about 6 centuries before my birth.

It's a free downloadable MX Linux distro ... nothing really "C64" there ...
Cloanto C64 Forever is probably more straight to the point ;-)
