There is a "bug" with the latest R2R Synth collection release. What happens is you cannot browse favorites or browse custom presets. You can mark favorites, and save presets, however they will not update to appear in the browser to be recalled from there.

Searching the web, I came across the steps of deleting db3.dbe file in program data. However, this is not the fix. What actually fixes this is just having to launch my DAW with administrator privileges. So as long as I am running my DAW with admin priv, all the Arturia browser functions work and update. (favorites, saved custom presets.)

My question; Is it a bad idea to always be running your DAW with admin priv? It seems like it could be?

    -EDIT-
I went to the folder C:\ProgramData\Arturia and changed it's permissions for user accounts to "full control." This seems better than running my entire DAW with admin priv yes? This also seems to have fixed the issue as I can mark presets as favorites, or save a custom preset and they appear to be updating and recallable from the Arturia browsers.

Sorry, I'm pretty Windows illiterate I'm half guessing with all this stuff in case you couldn't tell. Let me know if there is a better solution. Also, still wondering about the whole running the DAW with admin priv I'd like to be educated on the pros/dangers of that. Thanks!

I always run my DAW with admin privileges. Never had a single problem.

What are you worried about? Malicious cracker? Malicious dev? Most likely either would have already attacked at the download/install stage.

I'd say malicious dev is unlikely but I suppose there are a few cases, Aurora DSP comes to mind with them wiping the hosts file on install. Will never install any other product by them ever again.

    1. The problem with the admin has been around for a while and is an Arturia problem.

    2. Import is Successful but Banks Not Showing

make sure to run the DAW as Admin because it needs Admin permission to write new database file (db.db3) in the ProgramData folder.

    1- Close your DAW.
2- Delete a temporary file called "db.db3" in the folder (for Windows)
    "C:\ProgramData\Arturia\Presets".
3- Restart your DAW and re-open your VST instrument. The new presets will show from now now.
You will see them all listed and tagged.

    3. Becomes admin of your system:
The administrator account in Windows 10 gives users additional system rights to make system changes or install programs without restrictions.

Not really worried about the cracks. AZ is trusted source and the teams are doing God's work.

More so worried that admin would make random plug-ins more susceptible to time bombing possibly? Like does the example you mentioned sound plausible? Would giving your DAW admin priv somehow allow a plug-in to overwrite your hosts file?

From the two replies it sounds like running as admin is rather benign and nothing to worry about. Again, I don't know the in's and out's of these things so I appreciate the input. I'm an expert at audio things, but an absolute dunce in OS/Windows department.

Regardless, it looks like giving permissions to that one folder worked in a more targeted way to get the Arturia stuff functioning properly on my system. When searching for an answer, it seems most peoples problems were getting presets to appear at all, and deleting that "dbr.db3" file was all that was needed to solve it. On my system, all Arturia factory presets were appearing and loading for me, but it wasn't updating any changes like favorites or saving custom new presets. So deleting that file solved nothing, it just couldn't be updated or something and I guess running as admin or merely just changing permissions to the folder the file was located in let's the Arturia browsers function properly and update now. I guess? Anyways it's been a few hours now, closed opened sessions, closed opened DAW multiple times, everything seems a-okay.

No - that won't happen, so you don't need to be afraid!
The host file itself is backed up separately and you will be asked separately.
I would still recommend that you set up the computer as an admin (you're the boss) if you haven't already.
If you want to install sound banks you need the instructions from the previous post.

It would be better if you became an admin and not a user.

That is not big of a problem.
Of course there are security benefits to run applications not in admin mode esp. cracked apps as you'll know.

But in real life: the only side effect is that you can't import data with cut/paste functionality into and App running in admin security context.
