I don't think any of this has to do with the banality of modern pop music. These people are simply getting old, they're not likely to be making anything new that's commercially viable, and they wanna cash out. I don't think Bob Dylan or David Gilmour give two fucks about Taylor Swift's success any more than I do. You sound bitter and old.

 

Just from the top of my head of people who sold who would definitely be "making anything new that's commercially viable" are Justin Bieber, Shakira, and Katy Perry selling catalogues and I'm sure there's much more. If you think there's not more going on than you are delusional, especially when you consider the massive elephant in the room that is the tech that is wildly shaping the music industry (every industry). Dan Fuerth is right on almost every account and you can't dismiss it as "being bitter and old". Just because he's delivering it in a snarky way doesn't make anything he said any less true. Just take a look around, he's describing how everything is these days and not even just the music industry.

Unfortunately, you're pretty spot on. Also, "the last decade for profits" I also think is spot on and is multi-layered and that part of it is the most chilling.

 

i think when we asume 20 years back but they would have same age as now they would not sell .
they all want their assets optimal set before the major shifts in next 5 years .
the shitshow industry is secondary .

 

Yes, exactly. Also, keep in mind they are obviously being supported/encouraged to do so by people way more in the know about what the near future holds for the industry, than us.

 

Hope this will speedup the 4K release of The Wall movie...

 

I just hope now we will get a proper documentary/docuseries/biopic/etc. The in-fighting always prevented them from approving such projects.
