Hello colleagues, after several years using logic, I still haven't found a plugin that recreates what I got when I used Reason 5 in Windows, the "SubStractor" for me the best plugin in terms of cleanliness, purity and strength of subraves that I have tried so far, I have tried the Initial Audio 808, but few presets, very much of the royo 808, it does not remain linear, the note decays and I do not find anything similar, nor in Serum have I found presets, or anything like that, does anyone have something similar for rap or that can help me for my productions, since I like to give the personal touch to the bass to each song (as it should be) Not that there are rap albums that all the basses sound the same... How much I miss Reason 5... and how much I miss the subtractor, is that even the sound when exporting it sounded better.....what memories. Well mate, non of us have any idea what is it you "got when I used Reason 5" and why you struggle to recreate it anywhere else. 808 is one of the simplest sounds out there, all you need a sine wave and pitch and volume envelope. There are gazillion of tools that can do that.

 

What I'm looking for is that it's not the direct blow royo Kick, if not lengthen the notes, and that as a novice in the matter I still don't know how to do, I've always had presets.

 

So you are novice using stock presets and you go for a "personal touch"

How do you do that? How do you add a "personal touch" if you can't even make a straight sub bass and tweak the decay and release?

 

The first option would be to use the sound you need as a one shot in another daw.
Second option would be to upload an example of the sound and people can help you build it in another synth.

I mean ,why arent you just install Reason 5 again and create some bass one shots and safe them for the future as a wave file ?

 

If you use Kontakt, Output Substance is a pretty nice library for subs. You could try FAW Sublab, and Rob Papen SubBoomBass2. Kick2 can load any sample you want as a Click, and the expansion pack vol 11 has a bunch of sub 808 style hits. If you have UVI Falcon, the Prime8 expansion is pretty much dedicated to 808 sounds. There are so many ways to make good bass tracks.

D16 Punchbox can make some good subs, also Iceberg Audio The Sub, and you could use a good sampler. Maybe Serato Sample or something like that.

 

Cmon mate, wouldn't be easier to teach our man ChemaChinasky how to create a sound as soon as he explains what kind of rap bass that isn't bass he wants? Instead of offering plugins with thousands of presets that he's going to scroll for months when it takes less than 15 seconds to create a sub bass? I'm black and slow so maybe I'm missing something but instead of giving a fish to a starving man isn't it better to teach how to fish so he can feed himself?

 

Didn't see you teaching anything, other than how to not answer a simple question. Are we going to rehash 1 million Youtube videos of the same information?

Tell me how that reads like something helpful.

I would, maybe you can read ChemaChinasky's mind and explain what kind of bass that isn't bass he wants? No problem then. To my understanding my mate just don't know what ADSR envelope is for so he draw a note instead of controlling the sound with envelope, now he doesn't want to do that anymore and so I wander how ten more plugins with thousands of presets that you advise going to help with that.

 

So if he could figure out how to make the sounds he wanted in Subtractor, why does he now need a tutorial on how to use those same parameters just using another synth? Is there something exotic in Subtractor that is not in other plugins?

If you do not know the synth you are trying to use is even a good choice for what you are trying to do; you could just be barking up the wrong tree. And that's when people hop from one plugin to the next. They blame the plugin.

 

Oh man....I also started with reason back then...why did you post the picture.... I'm getting a bit emotional now.

 

That's what I'm talking about , maybe I took a bit of rude approach with my comment about the "personal touch", just couldn't let it be, it was to funny. He's a preset surfer, he said that himself, there's nothing special about Subtractor and nothing hard about making a sub bass, yet he couldn't find the right preset in Serum and now he have Output Substance, FAW Sublab, Rob Papen SubBoomBass2 and Kick2 to preset surf with although none of the above mentioned can do a thing about the sub bass that Serum can't.

 

I was saying that if you cannot find a synth capable of making good subs, then you haven't looked all that hard. 3/4 the battle is getting the sub to sit right in the mix, from any of them. Serum can do anything you want synthesis wise, but it can be tricky to make it sound organic or analog. For lack of better term. But it can also be the preset surfers biggest enabler of almost any other. Almost every sample pack comes with Serum presets, and I think there was a posted pack with like 25,000 of them.

Yes, cause it's such a good and capable tool, you can make synth sounds, you can make organic sounds and anything in between. Take a listen to Standalone-Music - SYMPHONY preset pack, it's all wavetables (although demo doesn't make it justice)

And of course you can make your sub sound as analog and organic as you want in Serum. Sub bass is essentially just a low pitched sine wave, if you want harmonics you add distortion or/and compressor, to much harmonics? you shave it off with filter or/and EQ. All those tools exist within Serum. And you have envelopes as flexible and as many as you want to shape your sub in all and any ways imaginable.
