    Hello

I am trying to export midi from Logic Pro from old sessions and import them into brand new blank sessions. The reason for this is when I originally made the projects it was many years ago and everything is so unorganised and not mixed properly.

Since then I have been on several mixing courses so wanted to start these projects from new.

I am doing everything right on then exporting end of Logic. Select the regions etc but when I import it into the blank Logic Pro session, I get the colourful skinny wheel of doom, and I get the 'Application Not Responding' when I right click on Logic in the dock.

When it has done having a hissy fit, Logic only shows up parts of the Midi files (See photo)

I have absolutely no idea why and I am getting really frustrated

Anyone able to help me sort this out?

    Thanks

You are launching a separate instance of Studio Grand piano for every imported region. That's not what you want.

You should go back to the original project, where you have all these regions on the same midi track still. Click the horizontal channel Track Header for the single track and it should highlight all regions. Or do it manually. Then click J for Join and it will join all regions into 1. Export/import that and you will get 1 new track with the studio grand on it. Or create a new software instrument track, and drag your midi file directly onto the workspace.

No, I only start off with one software instrument, when I import the midi logic adds the rest of the channels

One thing I have noticed though is in Finder where the MIDI file is, looking at other MIDI files, they have .Midi whereas the file that is causing the issues is only .mid

I have opened the midi file online and it opens perfectly, so obviously the problem is somewhere during the importing process in Logic...this is so annoying

The problem is that you do not know what you are doing in Logic.

Logic has always had problems with midi export. It’s not a new problem and I don’t know why it hasn’t been addressed or fixed yet.

I just found you can import logic projects, so that seems to work better
