me I'm okay with a touchpad, instead of a mouse, since I've been using laptops for a 1/4 century or more. A mouse takes your hand further from the keyboard and causes carpal tunnel over years of intense use. your fingers are what god gave you to use as an interface to understand and manipulate the world. A touchpad is god's most perfect use of your own digits in a computing environment.

Try a logitech k400 keyboard, battery last 6 months to a year. and it has built in touchpad.

    don't spill alcohol on it...
it won't damage the pad, but once it knows where you liquor is stored, all the booze in the house starts disappearing.

interesting. i like those multimedia controls, and mainly the volume up and down keys.
I don't like touchpads, but could be useful as a backup mouse.

I use a small Wacom Pro drawing tablet in either pen mode or touch mode, and you can set the active area to whatever size you want. I also have a large Kensington Trackball which I use for certain things, and I haven't owned a standard computer mouse for many years due to the reasons that you mentioned.

    People still use mouse mats?

The optical mouse was designed to be used by buisness men on trains.
The standard red laser works best on grey/charcoal/black cotten fabric, i.e. your pants.

I honestly thought people stops using then along with rubber ball mouses

one thing I found in a thrift shop along with a an android tv stick and a usb3 hub, was a microkeyboard. I'd seen these things for years and figured they were junk, cause of the size. Well I got the aforementioned "junk" in a 4$ grab bag, so I thought what the heck - I need another usb3 hub.

The keyboard worked very well especially the touchpad and scroll buttons. so I bought another off amazon for 10$

it uses a nokia phone battery, so cheap to get a spare. the battery life sucks if you have the led backlight on, about 3- 4hrs life.
if you turn the backlight off it lasts a week or 2 depending on how often you use it. Small enought to fit on most 88 key midi keyboards if you need a quick keyboard to navigate menus, etc. also handy for watching tutorials vids while practicing, as the media keys work with VLC.

    its 10$ on amazon.
