The inline Impakt looks great, hopefully they added the ability to trim samples.

I really hope their concept of "upgrade" doesn't only involve adding stuff for producing. I mean, I do it myself, but there are some basic shit like dim solo still not in SO6. You can't also do pre-insert sends and no plugin parameter linking... I would rather have those right now.

Still hoping it's strong, can't wait to see all of it.

studio one has had cpu spike problem for years. Especially on Apple silicon machines, I have repeatedly experienced cpu spike problems while running heavy plugins in MIDI mode, even in m1 m2 m3 and even in mac studio, they have not been able to solve this problem for years and I hope they have solved it in V7. my musician friends abandoned studio one because of studio one's cpu spike problems and returned to logic. but if this problem can be fixed, it can be a new start with v7 why not.

What you're writing is total nonsense, real professional musicians don't just use cubase and the other retro old sequencers (logic, pro tools) but also Studio one, FL studio or Ableton etc., why? because these sequencers are just as professional, some even ask for more than cubase and you have a better workflow, cubase has just lagged behind in recent years and pro tools is mainly intended for mixing and post-production and less for producing music.

S1 v4 was my first daw ever and I liked it a lot. Stuck to it to v5, but then the dark subscriptions clouds came lurking from the abyss and I decided it was time to move. Furthermore, their bug fixes came way too slow: there were reproducible bugs that crashed to desktop that were only fixed month(s) in the future with a point release.

So now I use Reaper. I must admit that from a UI-perspective I like it somewhat less than S1, but in the end it can do the same (or even more) and I know they won't screw me over over time with anti-consumer behavior.

I really clicked with S1 and I was actually willing to pay 400$ for it (or whatever it was, can't remember exactly). But that time has passed, at least for me it has: opinions will obviously differ, and that's fine :) All said, in the end I'm sure it will still be a daw that can produce pro music.

    Yep.
    I used legit Studio One from v2 - v5.5.

It was fun while it lasted but there were well-known issues with the midi timing / jitter, lack of sysex options, no proper midi filter (most serious sequencers will have this), and not to mention so many highly-voted user requests, etc in-between those versions - some of which remain completely ignored.

I had to wait years for serious bugs to be addressed (for example, changing an external input to mono and then back to stereo on a mixer channel... it would stay in mono until you did a full restart).

Once they announced v6, I was indeed one of the users who felt let down by the direction the software was going. And while I was concerned about the Fender CEO's comments about the future of Studio One and the introduction of the $ubscription model, I was also completely admiring the Cockos business model, user support, and overall vision...

So I jumped ship and became a Reaperite.
    :guru:

Now I'm gonna gush about Reaper in a Studio One thread, so anyone who will get triggered or wants to stay on-topic can skip this part:
With Reaper I found everything I needed and more (once I got over my initial hesitations, learning curve, etc).

    Immediately I was like:
oh wow, Reaper actually has a proper midi filter.
oh wow, Cockos team really do listen to users
oh wow, updates are frequent and Cockos team implement fixes sometimes within the span of a few days
oh wow, I love the amount of sample rate conversion prefs that come with it (fuck you Pre$onu$ Batch Converter)
oh wow, it actually has LFOs for parameter modulation that I don't have to manually draw in
oh wow, 2 second start up times.
oh wow, it almost never crashes
oh wow, TOTAL customization if I want it
oh wow, perfectly integrated, high-quality 3rd party content up the wazoo
oh wow, it cost me $60
oh wow, and my list really goes on...).

Here is one simple example of something Studio One would not let me do:
Studio One sends a CC reset message to external midi hardware upon playback / looping. This makes my AKAI Z8 sampler skip the first note when playing back a phrase. I had to run a third-party midi filter app in the background because there is no way to turn off or adjust SPP options in Studio One. And of course with Reaper there were multiple ways of solving this.

Bottom line for me was: I loved it for a while but for my own uses (and ethics) Studio One began developing in the wrong direction and I can no longer justify giving them my hard earned cash. So we had to break up. Now she's with somebody else (some jackass named Fender) and I am married to a somewhat ugly but brilliant woman named Reaper.

I also migrated from S1 to Reaper a couple of years ago. Here's my custom Reaper theme, which is a blend of Ableton look and S1 layout:

Yes, great efforts and taste, the problem is there's so much you can do within Repear's GUI framework. All efforts and taste in the world can't turn a poop into a golden brick.

This theme was made with ERGONOMICS in mind, not to try to impress anyone. There are many themes on Reaper Stash, that look great at first, but they turn to be a PITA when working with them. In most cases some unnecessary elements distract me (like e.g. overly contrasted grid lines, fancy knobs, idle functions etc.), while most important information (like e.g. plugin names in channels) are hardly readable. Usually, different types of information fight with each other onscreen, istead of giving me any help.

I've been testing this theme for over a year, making a dozen of revisions. Now I can work long hours without killing my eyesight, and being able to quickly judge the arrangement of the song and mix settings. And yes - things are deliberately color coded.
