    Okay, okay, calm down folks.
    Let me explain my POV more precisely...

    When a company, even a major, make the business plan for a new soft which will be commercialized at a very fair price (as it was the case here), but for a reason or another underestimated the REAL impact of piracy on sales, then this company has 4 options:

    1. increase the user cost via subscription, or by any other means (raise the price, ...);

    2. move to a much secure protection, which will penalize their loyal customers ;

    3. lower the price, hoping this will boost sales and make the product even more popular => 1000 sales for a $150 licence (which cost almost nothing to produce) is more profitable than 500 @ $200 (unfortunately, this doesn't work on the long term for a lot of reasons useless to develop here);

    4. stop the project.

    Now you can shoot again... :winker:

    No, please, develop point 3. How is that selling $500 licenses is more profitable than selling $150 licenses in the long run?

    1. Because lowering the price is not very fair for previous customers who pays the high price (of course, it's acceptable on punctual occasions, like black fridays);

    2. A lower price means (for many) a lower quality in regard of competitors. That's a well known marketing rule which is constantly demonstrated in the warez: we always want high priced software... and even more those which are hard to crack (remember Steinberg's drama with Syncroshit...);

    3. Cokos is appart. It's a two guys company (plus 4 contributors). They develop REAPER and... Reaper.
    You can't compare their business model to Presonus/Fender... or Steinberg, Native Instruments, etc.

    4. Ask Steinberg...

    This is the only PrintScreen presonus shared of studio one 7. Can someone help me identify the new features? I can see a revamp browser/splice integration. But there's also this bottom view that looks like a sampler or drum machine I don't know

    Not really. When you buy Logic, you buy Logic. I used Logic Pro X for more years than I can remember for $200. I expected to pay for Logic Pro 11, but it is free for Logic Pro X owners. FL is the same way, if bought for lifetime. Are Bitwig and Abelton not the same?

    Piracy has never been the reason Cubase has always been "buy now, keep paying later". Nothing about that changed the entire time they had people completely locked out of it successfully, for years at a time. They even stuck you with a dongle, and still kept charging for updates; plus they even charged you for the dongle. Updates full of fixes for things which are already broken when you bought it. They then flip you some new stuff to make you pay again for "newest update", rather than fix the existing problems for free.

    i think your are right about the Splice intergration , that is quite handy if so .. i aslo hope they update the file manager , where you can sort out things better and more control over cetain filter and so. The sampler / drum machine you're reffering to looks like just Impact ..?

    there are studies that show that shutting down Megaupload reduced revenue for the movie industry.
    https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0167718716301527

    there are studies that indicate that piracy of Game of Thrones ultimately increased paid subscriptions for HBO. there is a mass of evidence and research that lack of access to various digital content does not compel people to buy. people just don't buy, and they don't buy because they can't afford it, so they pirate.

    The claim that the Fender/Presonus business model is a direct result of pirating is bullshit that cannot be proven.

    Fender is listed on the stock exchange, has a board of directors and shareholders who demand financial results, and market prediction and business intelligence create a pipeline for products for several years to deliver profit. PROFIT!
    The move to quasi-subscription, with no ‘versioning’ of software makes is clever, it allows you to make changes to the EULA every year, to manipulate prices. But it won't stop piracy.
    New offer is even interesting, but I don't trust them and I know it's a honeymoon and prices will go up. DAW has been locked into a golden cage of quasi-subscription. RIP S1.

    IMO these four points fail to explain or validate your point. In fact, I have observed the opposite: companies that previously sold super expensive licenses are now making their products more accessible (NI, PA, UAD, Waves, etc.). I could give you more examples.

    It surely depends on the company we are talking about. But I can clearly see how subscription-based services and more accessible products are what's keeping many companies in the game nowadays.

    I respect your position, however it's strange, Avid hasn't been touched by any team for a decade, and is the company that has never suffered from piracy in modern times, and yet it defrauds its loyal customers, including me, every year with unreasonable prices, and policy changes every year. Following your reasoning there shouldn't be companies like Fabfilter, FL, Ableton, and hundreds of others. Universal Audio has lowered prices by 80%, selling its most prestigious pieces at 29 and 39 dollars, even though UAD has been uncrackable since its founding. And remember that without piracy, plugins would still cost 699, 799 bucks today like the audio market of 2005-2009. Those were real thieves.

    Looks amazing. I really hope they revamped the browser, but I think they just added the splice integration. Loved the new event design with rounded edges

    That's an evil "luxury" that's only available to companies that either have a relevant market share or a monopoly (I'm looking at you, Adobe). Thankfully, it's not the reality for most of the other companies in this business. It's not that they're not greedy, but because it can often end in disaster (I'm looking at you too, Minimal Audio).

    I still like S1, but if it's true that they've removed lower versions and left only the Pro it sucks.

    This already happened from v2 to v3. Yeah, long time. They removed one intermediate version (Advanced I think was called) and people who bought it were "downgraded economically" to the basic (or whatever was called). I remember because, surprise, certain MYSELF bought the intermediate one.

    And I guess now some faces are like mine back then: :deep_facepalm::wtf::trashing:
