Rekordbox DJ if you're planning to use CDJ at some point (your library will be ready to export).
    Traktor if not.

This can be quite difficult to answer as there are many apps to choose from. You can check http://clubdjpro.com/ to find out the best DJ mixing software at the moment. Have a nice day!

If you want to be proud of your mixing job - for your own satisfaction or to impress the entire world -, do it in the "old-school" way: use two CDs or vinyl turntables, a mixer, a simple software recorder, and limit yourself to basic Cut & Paste editing, as we've all done in those reels and scissors' good old days...

Now, if you plan to achieve the "ultimate" mixtape, then forget all the DJing software (even Traktor), and go straight for a DAW or a multitrack editor instead. Because as soon as you will correct your most obvious error, you will be tempted to correct and polish everything else... until perfection. So why bother to mix manually, if it's to do a deep editing afterwards?

    True.

One of the most important (and very rare) skill for a DJ is to be able, with the sole help of his ears, to feel which songs will match with this particular one. As a general rule, when a song requires extreme settings, the best way to be sure to preserve its sound quality is... to reorder your playlist, or even discard the song if it doesn't fit anywhere else.

Another way to proceed is to timestretch your tracks with iZotope RX (super easy and fast), which by the way contains one of the very best algorithm (Radius), and manually correct small tempo variations in your DAW during the mixing task.

If you're in a rush (or really lazy), there is a third option: Acid Pro. This old grandpa is super intuitive and its sound quality will not disappoint the average audience.

    Good luck.

I've been using Serato for over a decade. The new versions are so good! They have sync and key lock. It's stripped-down and easy. You do need hardware with it but I highly recommend it!

To what everyone is saying about being a good dj those skills will come. Just like if u were to pick up a guitar and learn it. You might sound like Jimmy Hendrix or Kurt Cobain over time. Who knows?

for live alcatech's bpm studio will do the trick old but gold
for pre recorded mixes you can use ableton or mixmeister the only downsite is you can hear the track is resampled with bigger tempo changes
with mixmeister you can also use vst's just create a vst folder in the mixmeister folder and install only 32bit vst's beware mixmeister wil not accept all plugins izotope ozone works

I have seen DJs using Live, Traktor and Serato, and from what I remember, for the more extreme settings, Serato was the only one delivering acceptable time stretching results. 9apps cartoon hd

    I think Rekordbox is cool.
It is by pioneer and by far, matches perfectly with Pioneer's CDJ, that is the industry standard (I know, monopoly), no matter, how bad the company's product advancements have become.

Rekordbox doesn't have the side by side view (the view we get with CDJs where two waveforms horizontal and side by side and not on top of each other) and I guess that is Rekordbox's only drawback.
Otherwise, Rekordbox gives you 8 Hot cues as well as 10 memory cues. You can save loop or non loop to both hot cue and memory cue.
Sync and keylock are there on Rekordbox as well.
I love intelligent playlist feature of Rekordbox. The analysis is good and with fast CPUs it becomes really a fast phenomenon.
Rekordbox is really good if you happen to have one of Pioneer's controllers.
    Otherwise, yeah, VirtualDJ is good.

Probably not the way for everyone, but i've been using TribeXR with my VR headset for a while now.

While it doesn't exactly translate into real life experience with, say, the Pioneer CDJ-3000/DJM A9 setup, it sure helped me loads preparing before I go to my bookings.

    I'm a djs since 1991, my advice :
if your tracks are mostly sampled from VINYLs, then go for Traktor. The BitGrid of Traktor is way more accurate for vinyl recorded tracks than Ableton.
Because vinyl recorded tracks are not BPM-stable even with Technics 1210.
Once scanned, you can easily sync track to a master clock, you can use build-in mixer, use FX, record mix inside the software.
It doesnt need a dedicaced "pro" audio card, not even a midi controller.

Ableton is not really a dj software, it lacks a lot of dj-orientated features. It's good to really polish/master a dj-mix if the tracks are digital and BPM stable, it allows deep editing of the mix like automation for FX, crossfades etc... but for realtime dj mixing/recording, Traktor is more dj-orientated.

Go for Traktor pro 4. The latest features like audio extraction, built-in "drum machine", EQ type selection etc.. are real nice additions to a standard dj mix as well. It can even automix tracks together, even if it's useless for a real dj ;-)

EDIT : Mixxx was unknown for me, I just tested it ... it's very similar to Traktor with less features, but still if you dont want to pay any $$$, it seems to be a very valuable solution as well. I didnt found a way to set a global master sync BPM like in Traktor, every tracks become the master when other tracks are stopped, it's ... different concept, but seems to be OK.
