I don't know much about FL but I 100% agree for Bitwig. It went from a weird experimental Ableton fork to one of the best DAW for electronic music production. Studio One also had massive improvements, but I think it was already very mature 3 years ago.

idk about the best but the most frequent feature updates definitely goes to Reaper like you mentioned, I don't know how Justin does it but he does it. Guess he's a genius or something.

    Definitely a vote for Reaper.

I have used and become proficient in multiple DAWs over the years:
FL Studio - from version 3 until 12
    Studio One v2 until 5.5
Pro Tools 10 to HD 2023
    Digital Performer 9 to 11

I'm moderately acquainted with others (Logic, Cubase, Reason, and Ableton).

Not only is Reaper's update schedule very consistent and regular, no other developer comes remotely close to listening to the needs of their user base, actually implementing the suggestions, and providing usually immediate bug fixes (sometimes within a day or two).

I just can't say the same about the others. With Studio One I had to wait years for serious bugs to be addressed (for example, changing an external input to mono and then back to stereo on a mixer channel... it would stay in mono until you did a full restart). There were other things related to midi timing and sync that took a very long time to fix, as well. See Admiral Bumblee's extensive reports for reference.

And not to mention that so many other devs want us to bend over and take their new subscription model up the wazoo... no thanks!

The features I'm looking for don't exist in DAWs and never will be so all DAWs are equal in my eyes.

I suppose the only reasons I know the versions by memory are because:
[1] I paid for / invested in them over the years
[2] I stopped using them at a specific time for specific reasons, sometimes related to the software iterations themselves (or lack thereof)
[3] my brain be like that

For stuff I 'tried before buying' I don't really remember that sort of thing at all. I'd have to look that up on the sister site :disco:

Ableton 12 has some really cool stuff. Granted, most of it is just them trying to win back people migrating to Bitwig, and Bitwig still has the upper hand in those functionalities by a wide margin (although I really dig the project key/scale setting feature).

Where they surpass Bitwig is the stock instruments and effects. Roar alone would cost anywhere between 75 to 150 bucks if it was released as a VST.

Logic 11 was a free update, but still a bit disappointing. Still can't search plugins, old ones are pixelated and small. Yes, the Studio Piano and Bass are the best built-in piano and bass I've heard compared to other DAWs. The stem separation option is great and quick too.

I just want improved stability. I sometimes leave my project template in Logic running in the background as an experiment and randomly within 15-20 minutes the icon will start jumping in the Dock and telling me "the plugin became unresponsive etc etc." So basically it crashes and your only option is to quit, it doesn't let you continue using it, but it doesn't look as crashing which feels worse.

The loading times when you open it are just bad, it's slow, really slow. Compared to Reason 12, which loads quickly and doesn't randomly crash. Very stable.

How does an Apple-made app on an Apple-made operating system on an Apple-made computer running an Apple-made SOC (system on a chip or simplified as a processor) run so poorly?

Still no ARA support for Apple Silicon natively either.

Logic is a great DAW, has lots of great plugins and a nice workflow, but it's almost like Apple don't really listen to any kind of feedback.
