    Hi,

I have a new M2 that is sometimes haveing huge CPU spikes in Logic. I think it's mostly when using Midi instruments. I have many plugins and libraries downloaded from here and is wondering if they have something to do with it. Can an installed plugin do that even though it's not being used in the current project? And if so, is there a way to find out which the culprit is and remove that one?

Or maybe there is a common issue with Ventura 13.6.8 and version v10.8.1 of Logic Pro?

I appreciate all help I can get, thank you!

    No

    No

System of elimination, something in your current project is doing it, start on single tracks and then bypass stuff, maybe it's something further in the effects chain, maybe it's an virtual instrument, maybe it's something running via Rosetta...

How can I see if something is running via Rosetta? I thought you could only run something in Rosetta if you opened Logic in Rosetta mode?

Kind of scared that will screw all of plugins, took a week to get everything up and running. What do you think?

Your Mac came with Ventura? Hmm...
My Logic 10.8.1 on Intel MacBook with Sonoma is running smooth.
Same on my MacMini M2 with Logic 11.0.1 and Sonoma

No I installed Ventura after from the App store because I read here that it was the most stable.

In Bitwig every format have different icon next to plugin name and detailed info about it, Logic, I sincerely don't know.

You can run Logic in native mode and emulated plugins will run via Rosetta in separate process, as far as I know, so you can have both.

    Let's ask chatGPT:

Just go for elimination process, it should take you 15 minutes tops, then go nuts trying to figure out why the thing is doing that, bugs, Rosetta or whatever.

if that stuff does not work, open Logic. Go to Logic menu, Preferences, Plugin Manager. Click the top of the Type column and it will sort by plugin type. At the bottom of the list , it will show all your Instrument type plugins. On the right side of the Plugin Manager there is a column that says "Use". Uncheck any of the instrument plugins you suspect. They will not be loaded in Logic when you close and reopen it.
Check "use" to put anything back into Logic when you close and re-open it.

a plugin not loaded into your session should not affect anything. If you disable any instrument in an open Logic project, it shouldn't matter, like you asked. The problem should only be an issue with something you have enabled in the track, but maybe could matter.

I think you have something else going on. I agree with the user above who mentioned update to Sonoma before really diving in on more time-consuming to resolve problems. Upgrading from Ventura to Sonoma should not cause any problems at all with your plugins. They are such similar MacOS versions the migration should be problem-free.

Dunno about that, seems like Monterey was the one, Ventura and Sonoma have some issues, take a look at this article
    https://www.bluecataudio.com/Blog/a...re-issues-for-apple-silicon-end-of-the-story/

After updating to latest Sonoma 14.6.1, my laptop is getting hotter more and more, so hold on with updating, something is not really right with this update and probably they will tackle it with next one when more people report it.

Right now I wanted to edit this post and my keyboard got unresponsive, maybe it's Firefox issue, I really don't know, probably it's Firefox that needs update, but yeah, getting on latest won't really solve all your problems.

Always check your " Activity Monitor " that tells you exactly whats sucking the juice out of your mac.
    Why not try Logic 11.1

this is true anyway, but there is nothing wrong with 10.8 that would cause this on its own. Many other people would have the same problem. But I'd update anyway.

Also check your buffer settings. Do you have a firewall installed? You could even be blocking a plugin with "report usage" checked and trying to send out data. It can loop.

I like how the very first reply on reddit is someone insinuating your problem is caused by some pirated plugins. "mine all work, bought and paid for". The likelihood of this being caused by a bad plugin from sister site is close to about 0. You'd know if it was caused by one bad plugin.

You could rule out Logic by testing in REAPER, btw.

Thank you so much for all the answers guys. I tried what Melodic Reality kindly suggested:

    2. **Check Plugin Compatibility**:
    - Go to the **Logic Pro** menu and select **Preferences**, then **Plug-In Manager**.
    - In the Plug-In Manager, you'll see a list of all your plugins. Look for the plugin you're interested in.

    3. **Check Plugin Information**:
    - Click on the plugin name to highlight it.
    - Check the information section or details pane (depending on your Logic Pro version) for any notes about its architecture. Some plugins will indicate if they are running under Rosetta.

But could not find any information more than plugin version and name in the plugin manager. In activity monitor, AUHostingService (Logic Pro), is taking up ~50% of the cpu with 280 threads in my current project. Logic is sitting on 8%. Is this normal? When i go intro "Open file and ports" there it shows me the plugins in the project. Is there something in particular here I should look at that will stand out? Sorry for the noob questions, I'm bad at this.

I haven't installed a firewall so should not be that.

Hahah yes, that's always the answer with pirated plugins for some people.

Good idea with testing on Reaper, thanks!

Will try this and see, thank you clone. If I'm still stuck at the end of the day I will try updating to Sonoma.
