This is V1 that I uploaded...

    Made V2 from group feedback...

    Changelog!

    Increased BPM
    Changed snares
    Added some extra beats
    Add more vocal processing

Before going any further... please confirm whether V2 is an improvement on V1 (or not!!!)

with this tempo imho it lacks some aditional rhythmic element rolling flying inbetween on beat and maybe a bit in tandem with the singer to lift things a bit up
but if you like it that way its good. matter of taste

Hey @Stuck In The 80s (love the name)! First, I like your song! I agree with @Auen Fred here: There's a great deal of empty space in your track. Consider adding a hi-hat and maybe even a light shaker or other percussion, too.

I haven't done any music in a while. Whilst initially finding the new auto generative AI tech very exciting, after a while it becomes depressing that full tracks can be churned out from nothing in 30 seconds.

Anyhow this was an interesting project.

I found the original song on youtube.

I thought her vocal was interesting but the music just didn't seem to fit the vocal imo.

And obviously youtube audio quality isn't the greatest.
Even worse, when you then apply a vocal isolator algorithm on top of that, so there were lots of artefacts.

Importing the vocal track into Ableton then meant having to try and line up the vocal parts so that it was in time with a beat.
(Live's warping is much better than previous in this respect)

After working out which parts of the vocal were usable, I then had to work out the key of the song, and then the individual notes / chords to follow her vocal melody.

Then from there tried to then come up with the drums, bass, guitars to accompany the melody.

It's definitely not finished... it's a rough arrangement, basic transitions, and simple mastering.
Just putting it out there to see how it could be improved.

Thanks for the comments so far.

The intro is too abrupt. It just sounds like one of those streaming files where the first note or two got cut off when uploaded.
It sounds fine, but it's too slow, for me anyway. I'll check it out again when you post a finished version.

Ha, It's a hobby bro. I'm immune from personal criticism as I realise myself my tracks are only just marginally better than shit.

Your hobby is probably playing with yourself, but I wouldn't suggest you should give that up.

And wow, you've edited your response three times.
Go find something better to do with your time man!

The music was good, I think you should spend more time on
And make other ideas for him
I think you should also test on the beat of 4/4
And of course, I think the tempo of the music should be a bit higher to create that energetic and dance feeling

These are my personal opinions, your taste is more important

Send it again to listen and enjoy

I know what you mean. I couldn't work out the beat of the original track it was taken from, but it was an absolute pain to set the warp markers to get the vocal in time, and I'm still not convinced it's hitting on the beat like it should be.

    Test different modes
    Add new sounds
In the first minute when I listened to the music, this music played in my mind: Hardwell feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn - Echo
In my mind, I played such modes of music that give a good feeling with vocals

He posted some terrible file that was just piano played poorly. Lots of incorrect keys played, but that file could be from anywhere. He could upload the DAW project and I wouldn't believe that either.

I agree with everyone here except ULX.

I don't mind the slow tempo, but I would fill it with more percusive/ear candy elements, a reverse/suck up effect before the snares for example. Also the snare is a little weak for my taste and some reverb work needs to be done on all the drums, sounds too dry. On thing I've been doing lately is to parallel a 4 or more reverbs with different settings/room sizes with the dry signal and then adjusting to taste, save that rack for instant good reverb on other projects XD.

On the vocals, put a Izotope Nectar and play with it for a while on a parallel bus, I think you can extract a lot more creatively from the vocals, now is too monotonous to my taste.

    Keep up the fun!

    Cheers!

Interesting track but to me it lacks something. By any means it's not bad just missing something.

Yes you're right. You get sometimes fatigued and blind about certain elements of a track when you're listening to parts of it over and over again.
There is some background percussion but on reflection it's far too "plinky plonky" and doesn't add anything. I was using it to fill in the vocal delay washouts towards the end of the chorus and the next verse but yes, the percussion needs more work.

I've posted the track back to the original artist for comments and she is going to send me the original vocal stems which I think will help greatly with the vocal processing. (I did try as you suggest multiple vocal processors but they seemed to bring more attention to the vocal artefacts).

Will also look at the snares.

Do you mean in terms of the arrangement (verse, chorus, verse, bridge) etc, or do you mean instrumentation, ear candy?

In terms of the intro, I find Soundcloud does that a lot.
Might push the BPM by another 5-10 BPM
