Hello Audiosex galaxy!

I recently took a test drive of Knifonium (latest version) by R2R. Everything seems ok, except I can't save the presets I create! Is this a general known and recurring problem or is there a problem here with my setup? In time, does the version provided by TeamCubeadooby allow you to save presets? I'm using Patchwork to save some things I made, but this is the question that begs to be asked...

I've encountered the same problem. I think it's most likely an issue with Windows permissions. The preset folder is located deep in system folders for some reason, and I think you cannot import or save presets because it requires admin rights to write files to that folder.

I wasn't impressed enough by this synth to keep it and deal with this issue, but my 2 guesses on how to solve it would be running DAW as admin (which means goodbye drag and dropping anything from windows explorer into DAW), or maybe by symlinking preset folder to another drive that doesn't require admin rights to access and write.

Yeah, I think you're right, It's not worth losing the drag and dropping function because of this synth (although I'm liking the variety of distortions it offers). The second option seems more interesting (despite I have no idea how to do this, but I'll do some research). Thanks for the great clarification and suggestions, dear Ikagura!

 

Saving & loading working as normal for my system. Saved patch in Reaper & loaded in Ableton Live without any issues (Windows 10, 22H2).

 

Windows 10 22H2 x64 vsti and vst3 instaled (can't do it in any of the versions)! Things get really strange, 'cos your windows file and folder level permissions may have free access while mine and others don't. The Windows folder permissions system has always been a horror. Thanks for the info!

Lucky you tiger! I usually leave this option disabled, because otherwise, simple operations become hell (even though I'm the profile administrator, endless authorization requests start to occur when I use my DAW or music notation program as administrator).

 

Strange, on my PC I have only an admin account, no user account at all. But maybe my PC is lenient because it knows that I don't even know the problem.

Yes. Windows 10 here. Also only 1 admin account, but it's Microsoft account because it holds my digital activation for Windows. Maybe that works differently compared to just local admin account, I'm not sure I haven't had one since I was on Win 7 around 10 years ago. Any software you run as admin the drag and drop feature stops working because unelevated explorer just doesn't have the rights to write to/modify an elevated program.
