@ᑕ⊕ֆᗰIᑢ It's good to know that there are similar projects, I only tested VxKex with good results, but this release is not clean. I will also test other releases, and I will let you know what the progress is. Anyway this is still a lot of data for one day of testing.

Linux ClamAV antivirus finds no threats..

I'd say If it can run Spectralayers, Cubase or Kontakt 7 it's a big promising Win,
I'm on Debian so I cannot try it myself atm..

@ᑕ⊕ֆᗰIᑢ Kontakt 7 only vkDanilov version work, I will check your second link and if it is clean I will let you know, I am also shocked too at what this little program can do. I have a special computer for testing software, I'm not installing anything on the main machine yet.

Edit: Nope, all releases are infected in some way, I don't know if this is not a false positive, but it works.
In the meantime I'm going to dotexe1337's Discord, maybe I'll find out something more there

I can confirm Spectralayers 10/11 work Perfectly in W7..

For SL11 had to manually import the R2R Certificate, but it's all running like nothin

VxKex ftw!


PS: (Which renders my actual W10 install pretty much useless..
W7 runs Faster, performs Better, +10ºC Colder, Networking blows it off the water,
no Updates BS, no Bloatware, no Copilot, OneDrive, Xbox, Weather crap.. nor excessive Telemetry.

Only thing would be DirectX12 support atm..

So until software starts refusing W7 again..
it's gonna stay W7 for work/music; Debian for the rest )

@ᑕ⊕ֆᗰIᑢ After installing VxKex, be sure to scan the following location:

C:\Program Files\VxKex\Kex32\KxCrt.dll

Because this file is infected, put it in quarantine, but do not delete it, leave it, you might still find it useful in the future.
This file is only used for deeper integration with Windows 10\11. iZotope, Steinberg, Magix, Waves don't use it, but it can be useful when playing games, which I personally don't do on a music production hardware.

I was on dotexe1337's Discord, and there is nothing more advanced than VxKex.
They are working on the Windows 7 Extended Kernel project, which interferes a lot in system, and I'm a little afraid to do anything in my already configured, and production ready system.

I'm sticking with VxKex, I can uninstall it at any time. Cheers

i dont get it : its in quarantine but can use it ?
or you dont use it ?

its depressing cause all that av scanners are toys , just good for old low level virus in dl'ed files .
when i look which scanners did detect and which not , knowing ms agenda , i say its false positive . all that av companys which detected something seem in some way corrupted by ms .
but i dunno in the end .is it worth the risk of hassle , imo not .

I will do some more tests and I will install VxKex to my music production computer, on dotexe1337 discord site is a newer version.

@Auen Fred Microsoft doesn't want such things to exist, everyone should use their crappy Win11, thats all.

 

It could be, but that does not mean that made a dll appear as malicious in many avs.
While you discovered a great thing if safe, more time to investigate is needed.
Or test it in an isolated PC, or virtual if possible.

 

@orbitbooster I am testing this program on an isolated computer all the time, except 1 infected file inside which about I already wrote earlier, this release is clean.
This is the only such advanced project on the net, there are no others, that's why we have to use what we have

 

All right, but my doubt is why there should be an infected file? What's its purpose?
It's mostly referred as trojan, but duh?
I mean, if there is an annexed forum this story should worry someone and raise a flag.
However, for stubborn win7 user this is the tool of tools, keeping an eye on it.

I'll try with an isolated and shadowed PC.

 

On VirusTotal, there's a "Behaviour" tab where you can read what it actually tried doing (which IPs it tried to connect to, which registry keys and files it accessed, ...)

I'm not seeing anything that screams 'malware' at me - but maybe I'm being blind.

I asked the same question on dotexe1337's Discord, someone replied to me:
"this is software that injects extended DLLs into your OS, every antivirus will think it's malware"
That's all I know.

I got this when I went to look this up, as first result on google. That's an immediate red flag if I have ever seen one. Not to jump to conclusions or anything.
