I saw the picture as the evolution of a child through various phases, becoming the person she is today.
I immediately had perceived a Giano Bifronte look to it, with the young girl looking to the left {past} and the mature woman looking to the right {future}.

yo merci @aschnt for your well wishes and taking the time to share your thoughts with me again; je vous souhaite bonne

as for your interpretation of the piece, totally my vibe stylistically, i love trip-hop. i especially like the tone of that synth pad -ish sample and the LFO on it, its like very thick and rich and has this hypnotic rhythm too it, reminds me of the shore on the beach and has the same energy; but kind of menacing and dark like the sea can be as well, beautiful sample and application of it

i have picked up a very tiny amount of French from the many times ive been to Paris; not enough to understand that final fantasy sample tho; but im a fan of the franchise and great aim on this overall, very smooth with a lot of style and atmosphere

@Bassifondi i have this thing where i think some music is 'mind pictures'....sound expressed as colors and shapes. Your piece is a perfect mind picture for me. I wish i could show you the pictures i imagined as i listened.....but they were mysterious, somewhat sad but also somewhat exuberant, like looking at old faded still photographs while turning pages in a dusty scrapbook that someone you dont know made and you found on day while clearing out the attic......So the piece works perfectly as a sound picture for The Loudest Sound :goodpost:

Ok... I don't know that this is about the picture, but to me it relates to the picture. It's about a brain. I didn't want to stoop to using the THX 1138 samples but I had to because that and Walter Murch inspired me to experiment in this direction.
One other interesting thing: our dog is not allowed to come down the hall my studio is on. While I was working on this she defied that rule, came in, sat down, looked at the monitors and left when it was over.
    :dunno:

It may not be finished yet, I don't know.

You really trying to sell us Murch on inspiring you? I'm sure that it was your dog's idea the whole time. I bet you have some kind of terrier, terriers are totally into spacial shit. I know this Jack Russell named Jaques who's doing some amazing ambient work using everyday hound sounds like the noise of his toenails clacking on a linoleum floor, panting and closely miced, heavily compressed scratching. Jaques' last album was based around the concept of class struggle and the constant focus that was always within the sound frame was a metal chain collar knocking against a metal water bowel as he licked and lapped.

You two keep up the good work.

@Smeghead yes keep up the good work and prevent accidents ! Funky groovy bangin' boppin' sampleness :boombox:While i was listening my chameleon, Karma, who is normally all chilled green n yellow n black turned all psychedelic rainbow reds, blues, purples and pinks when the track started blasting out of the nearby speakers, the iridescent colors catching the sunlight and seeming to move in sways to the beat. He even stuck out his big long tongue as if there was a juicy locust or waxworm nearby, which of course there wasn't. When the track ended he went back to default greeny yellow to match the wallpaper behind him. :speaker: ...Karma & Me say :goodpost:

this kind of stuff always makes me think of my friend; hes an amazing photographer, sells in galleries and stuff but hes color blind

like in this video hes going around writing emotional definitions to colors; but our perspective on color is so limited and biased - theres trillions of colors our eyes cant pick up, so it always makes me think. what color is this actually? if my eyes were able to pick up more colors, what would i actually see?

like my friend whose color blind, we look at the same flower and see different colors; what colors am i not seeing, that some other species is able to see? i could be looking at something with my limited perspective and get a certain feeling, that if i was able to expand my perspective more, id probably get a whole different feeling from looking at it then i do now; because ill be able to see it differently. i always wonder what the colors are outside of my perspective, my friend really brought that into my perspective

    Here's my entry.

Mom mother sucked big time, and every time I was happy about something she'd find a way to firebomb my soul. She left my brother and I when I was 12, my brother 9 with the excuse that she "needed to do her own thing. The loudest sound that I ever did hear (borrowed from the collage) was when she accused me of lying about me not looking for a library book that I had misplaced, absentmindedly leaving it at a playground but running as fast as my 8 year old feet could carry me back there to retrieve it when I realized my feax pas, only arriving after somebody had walked away with it. She reason of being was her need to power over me and her rationalization and what she said to me that first time that it became apparent to me sent me into physically manifesting blackness overcoming my actual vision and tunnelvision as the world at that moment crushed my very being and disappeared into a pinhole right in front of me . As well, the sound of her voice became distorted and seemingly coming from an alternate universe, hence the title and first line (like in an old English poem).

She was so horrible that my brother wanted to ship her to an old folks home when the dementia overpowered her in El Salvador because it was cheap and so he wouldn't have to deal with her. I couldn't let that happen so she continued to be a pain in the ass in the town my brother lived in until she climbed on her bed to swat a fly, fell to the floor and broke her back. She died a week later.

    Yea!!!

The song isn't finished because things piled up on me this last week. I'm going to redo the vocals minus the extra voices as I'm not happy with them. The music and playing is solid though. I'm in DADGAD tuning though with a three string partial capo on the DG and A strings (2nd, third and 4th) which creates a new sweet sounding DAECDD. Finding shapes isn't hard and it sounds magical to me. The first bit is finger-picked and with the other two I am using using a plectrum. For you gearheads both the Strat type electric guitar parts (Humbucker bridge on the lead and middle pickup for the chop part) are going through a Wiz Pedal Mini D which is a Dumble sound on the cheap into a Vox AC4TV (on 1/4 watt because we have neighbors) miced with an SM57 on the edge of the speaker into a Warm Audio Tonebeast into a Warm Audio WA76. The acoustic guitar is a Martin D-15M miced with a Gefell UMT70S into a Daking Mic Pre One into an Audioscape Opto, same as my vocals. The congas and little Cuban batta are going through the same 57 Warm chain.

The loudest sound that I ever did hear
Was the sound of your voice as it raped my ears
Nothing I said could prove you wrong
Pinned me down, yeah you're so strong!!
Blind, the dark, I could not see,
Tunnel tried to squeeze the life from me
When when you died in that home alone,
Guess I stepped on a crack, broke my mother's bone

    Your misery begged company
It could and would not be alone
    Asunder torn reality
The cut was deep down to the bone
You weld the knife above your head
Slashing down 'till I was dead
I see it all so vividly
Another victim of your murder spree

Quick little something for the race.

From a technical standpoint if anyone is curious, i just recorded it live no midi and have put it together into a stream of noise with hella wrong notes along the way, hopefully lasting short enough to be able to convey emotion.

Picture that was posted as a idea for me represents mental health and various angles of seeing the self, the ego and the dark side. Memories that are somewhat true but mostly distorted thru the everchanging point of view growth or stagnation.

@reticular I really like your piece. It has a very strong feel and captures your description of The Loudest Sound picture extremely well. I like its live nature, rawness and variations too.....sounds like it could be an overture for a longer cinema soundtrack. Well done! Great job! :hifive:
