    (High Sierra)

I ran into some malfunctions on my production computer. I needed to do a fresh install of Live.

Originally I was on v10. Couldnt remember which was the working version I was using and decided to install v 11.1.22.

I have a handful of tracks playing and like one Decapitator on a bus.. and the thing is hitting 20% CPU already!!

This is not normal, and there are no different or new variables (aside from Live 11 install), that I am aware of.

Can anyone recall if this is common?.. or if this is fixed on some update?

5 or so years ago I decided I was no longer going to do updates (OSX and Live), and was finally going to work on music... vs. being addicted to software. Imo, there's obviously nothing wrong with software addiction, it's just that the result for ME is the lack of music production.:rofl:

I appreciate the feedback my friends, and am sending good intentions to all members and enthusiasts. :mates::mates::mates:

    Have a great day/night!!

Thanks for taking time to reply!!

    Mac 10.13.6
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
    2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

I have had no problems for years running heavier projects on Live 10... I switch to this live version and like 3 midi tracks with a decapitator on a bus has me at 23%.. THAT DOES not happen. SHouldnt have anything to do with specs if ive had no problems prior. Or atleast spec are moot.

Sure it does. Ableton 11 is less optimized, because the developer tests new software against "current" machines. That means they may, and usually will; use more resources. Ableton 11 runs poorly on my Mac Pro and I have 2 cpus which are both faster than your i7.

Go back to Live 10 or try Live 12. Performance of Live 11 was never that great.

Ableton is also more targeted to Windows userbase, so comparable performance from Mac versions might not be as proportionate.

Especially, he is running MacOS High Sierra. It does not support (or make use of) Metal Compliant GPU. That GPU specification is the main hurdle to installing MacOS 10.14 Mojave. So that is the first thing I would try. I would do that update anyway. Later versions of software may install on High Sierra, but will not get the benefit of Metal Compliant GPUs.

Also, many of Ableton's initial new major version releases have had problems that required update versions almost immediately. Like Waves always does. The actual build number is worth looking at, to see if there is a later build of the same Ableton 11.

No matter what versions I have tried of Ableton, Logic always runs better on the same machines. And a 2015 Macbook Pro is getting a little long in the tooth. We do not even know if it is using an internal SSD as it's system disk. In 2017, internal SSD was still an upgrade; so I would guess it was in 2015 too.
