Even funnier : i've seen mastering eng using strange "remaster" tricks on old tapes : bad high end ?
Cut it like a butcher (ex : 24 dB/oct high cut at around 6kHz) and forget it.
And restore all the high freqs with aural exciter or similar.

Same with bass : boomy low end, tried all tricks ?
Low cut it the same way at around 80-110 hz.
And "restore" bass with Lowender or similar.
Of course, it doesn't work on modern electro masters

As those records were more "defined" into the 120-5 000 range, you may get better results recreating "extended" range from better signal than trying to polish a turd

Try it on old non remastered album :winker:
    It is fun

    HiHat at 6kHz + ?
    Presence region is 5kHz max.
    Harmonics only.

And the "meat" of most instruments (fundamentals) are UNDER 1 kHz.
Most cymbals "meat" is 1 khz, clashing with vocals, guitars ... and such.

Only a piccolo flute can reach 5kHz fundamental.
And trust me ... you don't want to ear it.

So if you cut at 6 kHz and cut your hihat ... throw your mix in the bin directly.
Too much non sense on this thread ... i'm out.

Listen yourself. HH (not particularly high or low) first pure, then with LP @6kHz, 12dB (24dB sounds even worse)
    And root is 537ish Hz

I never said there was nothing over 5khz.
    I'm not dumb.

I just said it is ONLY harmonics.
    No fundamentals.
And you can recreate those harmonics with harmonic exciters FROM fundamentals.

That's all i said since the beginning.

You just cut HARMONICS on HH mate, not the MEAT ... so by using an "aural exciter" or similar, you can RECREATE them from lower freqs.
Here is your high cut HH ... with BBE Harmonic Maximizer.

Even more high end than your no cut HH :bleh::winker:

Cutting over 5kHz will delete NO instruments.
    Just harmonics...that you can recreate.

That's why EQ s*cks at AIR recreation, exciters/harmonics generators rules.
