As I predicted would happen some weeks/months ago, Native Instruments have just dropped Traktor Pro 4 update. It appears to have taken advantage of their acquisition of iZotope and used the RX11 tech to develop in stem separation and flexible beat grids. Not churned through the content fully yet, but this looks like it finally brings Traktor back into the DJ game, and there will inevitably be updated Traktor Kontrol devices imminent I would imagine.

This looks like a techno DJs potentially dream, and I wonder if there will be an exodus in the techno scene now, from Rekordbox to Traktor (which was previously already or currently used by Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, and Chris Liebing).

Just took a first look on it and I´m missing the stem seperation option in the context menu.

Do I need a Traktor controller to use it? I just have a 2 channel Pioneer controller. At installation I skipped installing NI hardware drivers, because I don´t own one. Might this be the problem?

 

look into Track collection or created playlist

 

Video is showing an context menu option via right click -> create stems. I don´t have this.

 

Found the error. Option is just available from preperation list, not from tracklist or other folders.

 

I wouldn't say it was never out of the game, but with increasing media invasion, sw like VirtualDj able to mix video as well took over, at least for a while.
But for the old school djing Traktor had everything needed for the purpose.

To me the game changer in virtual dj sw was the time/pitch stretch, not available on real turntables, and that was the "only" gizmo I really enjoyed (ear is more sensible on pitch than rhythm), so for me the technique of mixing was the same for all the rest.

Ther's a point i this: you wouldn't do all that heavy workload on the run, like it was iconvenient (but still possible) doing in-out markers etc. on the run as well.
