By the way if you want to play around with the talkbox sound yourself without paying a lot of money it's stupidly easy to do, literally take a pair of earbuds you don't care about very much, stick em in your mouth and there you go!

This works actually! I've done this, but I hooked an earbud to a rubber tube (used in cooking when making juice from berries) that I borrowed from my mother's kitchen. Sure you have to crank up the earbud to the point of distorting it (and possibly ruining it), but the sound was fantastically nasty. Shame I was shit at actually sounding out words with it.

 

Ok, I can tell for sure it was used by Telex - Moskow Diskow.
Why? because you can see it in the behind the scene clip (see the top rack, aside the Roland CR-78).

BTW there is the Xils emulation vst.
