BBE... the original snake oil goodizer? Or Aphex Aural Exiter? Or recording your cassette with Dolby on and playing it back without?

The PassEQ is an excellent equalizer in terms of sound. At least the analog unit is. But I have to say that the handling concept never convinced me. And as a plugin - as you said - it makes no sense at all.

This is another one people often put on a send, on a bus group channel. Have you every "finally tried" some hyped up plugin you keep hearing about; and thought to yourself that you really do not see the reason for all the hoopla? A decent percentage of the time, it's either being used or adjusted incorrectly. The rest of the time they are Acustica.

BBE Maximizer ... of course :D
And if you think it is "snake oil" ... buy new ears for christmas :bleh:

I will try Dopamine thanks !

PS : don't "over use" those effects, because they mess phase and transients/dynamic.
Like Tone2 synths and effects (using the same tricks in their engines)
In fact, i stay away from them as much as i can. And try to avoid them on master.

Simply boosting with an EQ doesn't usually create "good air", according to my experience. What works is either:

    1. Using instrumentation that naturally contributes air.
    2. Sending some of the tracks to a high-passed reverb (ideally the panned instruments. The high pass can be at about 10K). The reverb shouldn't be subtle, but instead the - otherwise nasty - highs should be drenched in reverb. This creates a very smooth high frequency shimmer.
    3. Mixing some additional high-passed and reverb-heavy instrumentation quietly to the sides of the track.

@Auen Fred This is technically the same "code content", but BBE co-op with different makers.
As long as the plugin work, there is no need to buy the new one.
But it seems old one was not updated by previous "coder/packer" ... so they changed for Nomad Factory.

About how BBE Sonic Maximizer works, some reading (and code) :
    https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=91439

Phase shift on high processing seems due to filtering, not delay.
I was wrong on this point
There can be phase shift on bass contour too so ...

Nice! While i was reading this i was figuring out the array of textures you can create with this tecnique. Smokey plates, dirty springs, smooth and modulated algo verbs and so on. Sometimes, clouds are beautiful in the sky. This one i will be trying on the next days, thanks

not that i can do something with it nor really interested in using js or reaper (i did) but reaper always impress and that thread is from 2011
    here:
There's no need to compile it...

just create a text file in the "effects" folder in reaper folder and then paste the code there and that's all
    :woot:

    thanks for the link

Reaper was option overkill for my taste. when I want air I just put a high shelf eq until it sounds good

I noticed that the second technique that I described was probably not 100% unambiguously explained, and as some people took interest in it, I want to clarify here that: The effects return track should include a high pass EQ first (at about 10K, or adjust to taste), and then the heavy reverb. This works, for instance. very well with rhythm guitar tracks that lack air, especially when mixed in subtly :) .

I call this phenomenon the "Magic Version". A very large percentage of the time it is some sort of "elitism". That percentage rapidly increases if something is discontinued completely. Sometimes it does make sense, like say Recycle v2 vs 2.2, when they dumped SCSI support for no reason. Rarely does it have anything to do with the software, other than changes in protection. "i'm going to use Ozone 4 because Jaycen Joshua used it." Yeah, in some ten year old video perhaps. A good reason, is if they change the protection to something yet undefeated.
