Ok so the R2R IK keygen is getting a bit long in the tooth but I had been updating both Amplitube & Tonex using it and official installers dld'd from IK. I've been able to update Tonex to 1.7.4 & Amplitube to 5.7.5 but 5.8.0 & 5.8.1 do not appear to work with the old keygen. They install and they start with the splashscreen showing for just a few seconds....then crash. Also the plugins crash any host I try open them in. I thought maybe it was a runtime issue or just some quirk of the the first machine I tried those updates on but the same thing happened on two other machines.

So am I missing something or have we hit an impasse?

Huh....that's really weird. So you installed 5.8.0 & 5.8.1 on top.....and they were still regged??
I'm at a loss here. I tried both versions on both a Win10 & Win11 machine. First I tried installing
on top of 5.7.5 as you have.....and that's always worked fine in the past. But that didn't work
on either machine. So I uninstalled EVERYTHING with Revo and tried clean installs of 5.8.0 &
5.8.1.....again, no joy. So I wiped it all again and re-installed 5.7.5....and no problems.

This is a real head scratcher. Both of these machines are laptops so not the greatest graphics
chipsets....but not the worst either. So now I'm wondering if IK upped the graphics requirements
from 5.8.0 on. Maybe an OpenGL problem? Or maybe OS related as I'm running FBConan Win-Xlite
builds on both machines? I'll have to give it a go on a beefier desktop machine.

 

Ok, it's a weird on all right but I've got it fixed. Found the answer on the IK forums of all places.
It seems sometimes upgrade versions don't get along with previous Preset folder in Documents:

So I'm up and running 5.8.1......just need to re-install my presets.

 

Alrighty then!! I finally pinpointed the EXACT problem. I restored my old presets and dammit if the problem didn't
return. Sooooo......I knew it had to be a preset problem. I removed the folders one by one. When I removed my legacy
Amplitube 4 folder.....the problem went away. So...one by one I started adding my Amplitube4 sub-folders. When I
re-installed my "Artist" folder....bam...the problem came back. So I removed THAT folder and started adding back
the individual artist subfolders. No problem UNTIL I got to my "John Petrucci" folder. There were two presets in
that folder that were not the proper length....those TWO damn files were the problem!! Dumped those and all
is good.

I'm not sure how to mark this as solved. Is that something a mod needs to do?

Dam that Petrucci! He's always messing things up. Someone should give 'em a good stern talking to...
