Not trying to start a war between R2R and V.R lovers, but need some clarification.

Basically I consider R2R the very best group around for the last decade due to their brilliant work with eg iLok, but when it comes to Steinberg - perhaps just me?!? - but I find their releases extremely complicated to install to say the least.
bottom line: I haven't managed to install a single Steinberg release from R2R!

I have in general avoided making use of V.R releases until now. Last week I installed 2 Steinberg releases from them - Wavelab and Spectralayer.
Both releases were straigh forward installs and works (so far) as expected!

So why is R2R such a pain when it comes to Steinberg releases and V.R so straight forward - Is there something I've overlooked?

    Cheers

R2R solution is easier and i find it cleaner.

when the certificate installed (done in 30s), then just run the setup by R2R and you are good to go.

    R2R = Legit Steinberg releases
Steinberg Dev = Paid bloated release
VR = Dev Testing phase release, awalys needs rev2,3,4 etc.

Never had an issue with any R2R install.

Steinberg has always been super simple and quick, just make sure you have the emulator installed as well as the certificate. Literally seconds to do and check. The NFO normally tells you everything you need to do.

Are you for real? Steinberg installer is so easy. I am assuming though, the reason you (and many others) don't have a working version at the end of it is because you don't read how to installed the Root Certificate properly and don't test to see that it is installed properly. This not being installed properly appears to be main (if not sole) reason for people not having a working version from what I've read, and that is all down to user error and inability to read instructions properly rather than R2R method being complicated.

after JUST installing R2R silk emu you are 100% a legit user, I am a true legit user for Cubase, so I know. No need to move, copy, past, overwrite or whatever

I never wait for R2R's Steinberg releases, I download what I need from the Steinberg official app and install***. So you are virtually a legit user. As soon as you see the update you just let the Steinberg manager go for it. The code of the software is UNTOUCHED 100%

***ONLY in this case you have to copy-past a file in the activation folder

PS i never used VR's Steinberg, but I extensively use their stuff and everything is SOLID, great group! Slava VR!

haha as the certificate was released i did overthink it maybe after reading the instructions by R2R.
So i installed it like it was suggested by R2R, but it didnt show up for me, the SILK tester simply failed for me.

so i opened gpedit and got crazy there, i even went into the certificate viewer on windows 10.
After 2h i got it working. I dont know why i didnt install correct.
This was on my old computer.

Meanwhile i got a new one and here it worked simply installing it for all users, checked SILK tester - fine, opened HALION 7.10 fine.
and i did nothing different ...

vr as recently r2r has bugs in their releases such as unfixed timebombs
furthermore vr often provides no keygens etc so just install ftw

i must admit its equal ,whether r2d2 or vr , timebombs are the most effective protection besides dongles and get changed every update.

I'm a big fan of R2R but I'm not comfortable with the root certificate and emulator method so in the case of Cubase and related Steinberg stuff I use VR. Once installed you can use the legitimate Steinberg Download Manager to download updates and install pretty much anything else from their catalogue. Halion, Wavelab, Spectralayers etc.

For almost everything else I use R2R stuff when available.

We should be happy that we have the choice!

I completely agree. This is really the only thing I find lacking with R2R at all.

I have been running Team V.R.'s steinberg stuff for years. Mainly after one ill fated attempt to get R2R's emulator to work way back when. I was able to get it to work after a time, but at days end it was simply too much hassle (IMO) to obtain a result which was much more easily obtained elsewhere. I have NEVER had any issues whatsoever with TeamV.R. steiny stuff. Both teams end result is the same.

R2R decides to make theirs such that the installers are untouched and I believe the cracking occurs when running their emulator against the OEM binary image. However in order for them to accomplish this feat there are system parameters and tweaks that need to happen in order to accommodate getting around Steinbergs prot's. With R2R's method everything is made to work by the end user doing the pre and post adjustments, and certificate installs permissions tweaks etc, etc... The big argument is that the emulator has a uninstall feature. I do not believe that the uninstall for the emulator un-does all of the other extraneous stuff that must be done in order to make the emulator valid.

TeamV.R.'s approach is - install the all the system support required by the OEM and install the uncracked binary image. Then Run the UnLocker. DONE. It's the same for all products. I believe pretty much all the same piecemeal system stuff R2R is making the end user do is being done by the V.R. UnLocker automagically behind the scenes. What's more you can install the newest versions (updates) of uncracked binaries straight from the OEM, and run B6, and you're done. The one large argument everyone makes against the V.R. authorization is that it's harder to "un-install" as there is no pat uninstall for what the B6 does behind the scenes. BUT, I have actually never had cause or occasion to have to uninstall the thing so it's really a rather moot point. It ALWAYS just works. For me anyway.
