Can someone run through exactly where the files that are supposed to be copied from R2R, go?

I install, "see" activity, but hear no sound.

 

wait it seems that you installed the VSTi but didnt load any sound in it lol

it's a drum sampler, you have to load a soundset in order to hear something

 

Yes, I can load kits and they show up in GA, but there is no sound.
I think all the samples are missing.
I point GA to where the samples are, but it doesn't find anything.

 

it seems that you are able to open the VSTi, it means that you installed it correctly, R2R silk emu doesnt need much work

please write which one is correct because you writing 2 opposite things lol

also, post a screenshot of GA with the kit loaded, so I can verify

 

The picture of the kit loads but there is no sound.
I suspect the samples aren't loading.

 

I actually had this working perfectly.
Then I tried to "upgrade" with the most recent R2R, but it broke something, so I've been trying to reinstall the previous version that worked, but "no joy".

Remove them both with Revo Uninstaller Pro and start over, if you cannot get it working no matter what you try. Did you do that before trying to "upgrade"? R2R almost always say to uninstall old version first.

 

Yes, I uninstalled completely with Geek Uninstaller, before I installed the most recent upgrade AND I have completely uninstalled, a couple of times, since then.

I think I remember it was the file locations, or how they are installed that made it work before, but I don't remember.

 

when we are handling with R2R releases there's no need to use a third party unistaller, unless there's some kind of big mess, so if you are sure that you always installed R2R (or steinberg official installer) just use the windows uninstaller app, thats general advice. R2R installers/uninstallers are better than legit apps and third party apps.

now try this:
0 close cubase and all steinberg apps, make sure all are closed in the task manager
1 copy "license-engine-access.dll" from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\TEAM R2R
2 go in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\ and past and overwrite it in "Activation Manager" folder (admin rights required)

then try to open cubase and GA and see what happens, I dont think this will solve, but I need it in order to be sure that the R2R emu is properly installed

then go in GA and play the pads or a midi sequence, go in the GA MIXER TAB and check that there's AUDIO going to the GA output, because I suspect it could be also a problem with routings

hmm maybe you didnt install properly the libraries!!! hard to understand what you mean lol

listen, try to load a wave sample with drag and drop

-open a BLANK GA
-catch a one shot drum, a snare or whatever
-drag and drop it on one of the PADS and play it

you HAVE to hear it

after we are sure that GA works we can try to test the libraries, which are probably not installed correctly

 

Yes, if I drop a .WAV on a pad, it plays.

 

How, or where, should the Libraries be reinstalled?

They are all installed but GA doesn't seem to detect them, even when pointed to, directly.

 

oh! after 10 posts we know that thats not "GA installation problem" or R2R or no sound for routings or whatever lol thats a step ahead

you can install the libraries wherever you want, but you have to authorize em, the best way is with the Steinberg Library Manager, you have probably installed it with R2R's cubase package

open that app and authorize the libraries you have, you have to do it one by one

 

I have done several as you describe. I am wondering if it has to do where the folders are located?

Could it be something in the registry?

I have ALL the libraries and they are all still where they were originally. When everything was working I had the main library on my C: drive and all the rest on an external drive.

I have tried install them by the SLM, and the SLM says they are there, and they show up in GA, but no sound and the search function says samples are missing.

 

It's possible that GA libraries aren't registered correctly. If so, reinstall won't help.

Try to open a folder when Steinberg libraries (.vstsound) are installed. Click on any of them, Steinberg Library Management should start. Choose "Register in Place" or install to a different location. There is no need to click them all but if you have two or more folders make the same operation in all of these folders.

There are four typical reasons for content not showing up in the DAW or within the plugins.

1. Content not correctly installed
   The Steinberg Library Manager will show all “registered” Content and via “Details” its location. If you want to move or delete anything, please use the Steinberg Library Manger and nothing else.
   Note: The Steinberg Library Manager has no license check and will register and display everything you downloaded via the Steinberg Download Assistent.
2. No license or no active license
   Absolute 5 still requires an eLicenser (soft or hard) connected to be able to see and load the content within a DAW or PlugIn, even if it’s visible in the Steinberg Library Manager (see above).
   Cubase 12 and some content will use the new protection mechanism. Perhaps the visible content is covered by the Cubase 12 License.
   Launch the Steinberg Download Assistant, because this will update the eLC and the Steinberg Activation Manager automatically.
3. PlugIn is not uptodate
   Espescially the newest content very often requires the latest version of a plugin to be able to load it.
4. Mediabay trouble
   If all the above is checked and ensured and the content is still not visible a rescan of the content in the mediabay or even deleting the user preferences of the mediabay may help.

 

He did not specify the prior installation was actually an R2R release. That is a logical assumption, but people mix and match stuff from different Teams all the time. And It often causes issues. R2R even mention this in their nfo files, although it is usually re: V.R releases. But as for Windows' uninstaller, that part is not even close. Revo Uninstaller Pro has fixed so many peoples misinstallation and timebomb issues after they first used Windows and other "cleaners" on here, it's not even funny. It is even better than ioBit at getting rid of leftover scrap files from previous installations. Revo cleans and fixes what others do not.

Plus, I did state this should be after you run out of other options, or you will waste time uninstalling/reinstalling. But it will fix all 4 of the above "typical problems" posted by @lbnv. That post covers the 4 most common problems their tech support see. It's why they are in their own list. Your absolute last guess should be an actual problem with an R2R release.

Should I use Revo Uninstaller and try again?

Should I eliminate everything GA/Backbone in registry?

I now notice the library for Backbone is also gone!

 

Incidentally, I am using Reaper.

Until I tried the most recent R2R upgrade it was all working perfectly.

The initial install was R2R.
