This both CPUs i have also in mind now. :)
Is the 96 MB L3 Cache usefull for the DAW?
Or is it really only for Gaming?

cache levels allow for bigger data chunks to be processed, that primarily depends on software design, it doesn't matter if it's for audio or gaming apps, it's about developers using proper libraries and coding things in a way bigger caches can be effectively utilized

The 3D cpu variants from AMD are mainly aimed at gamers and some heavy scientific workloads atm. If you are not into demanding competitive gaming you don 't need to spend the extra cash for the extra cache, hahaha. The 7800X will be just fine but hey, AMD's 9000 series is just outside the door being released next month. FYI, I have built a comp for a pro-gamer customer who is also an amateur dj/producer with a 7950X3D and i saw no difference in audio apps and plugs load compared to the plain 7950X. In some cases the X3D was a little bit slower than its "normal" counterpart due to built-in limitations in clock boost and thermal behavior of the X3D cpus in general.
I would hold on for AMD's next gen and although their new cpus are back compatible with AM5 mobos there will be new mobos launching as well. The 9000 series cpus will have up to twice the data and instruction bandwidth from the 7000 series and even more improved latency. Also thermals will be more in check now, especially after the Intel fiasco with some 14xx series cpus, AMD doesn't want to be caught with their pants down, so TDP is now more strict at 170W for the Ryzen 9s and 120W for the Ryzen 7s.
For audio work the Asus ProArt X670-E Creator (as tzzsmk has also mentioned somewhere) has all the bells and whistles you will need. Also Thunderbolt 4 compatibility. No need to go for the lower B650 chipset as the difference in money is relatively small and you get less features while not saving enough to justify the purchase imho. This will also cover the upcoming cpus just fine.
    Cheers

I trust cinebench most when it comes to CPU benching. Somehow the values always seem to scale with what I was able to do with that certain CPU, no matter what generation of cinebench I used.
As mentioned before I personally am not a big fan of Intels power saving core architecture with performance and efficency cores. I want my lecacy software to work as expected. That's why I stick with AMD for now.

Do you honestly think Intel fucked up the cores so much your software's are almost useless? I have i9-13900K and I do everything from music to 3D rendering and video and photo editing. And guess what. Everything runs so smoothly, lightning fast and most importantly without no problems. I don't know where you get this nonsense.

    there is definitely something off,
I did some tests on Xeon w5-2455X which has no E cores, just 16 P cores, after disabling hyperthreading (32 threads max) audio performance is even better (more consistent),
also failure/return rates of 14th gen Intels are fairly high, maybe power delivery is whack on recent gens,
and it seems next gen Intel will get rid of hyperthreading completely, in favour of pure P and E cores - but new Xeons will also have only E cores for more consistent performance again

It's not Intel fucking up, it's software being not optimized for an architecture no one thought of when writing. Besides that I stick with windows 10 LTSC for now, that doesn't know about 'better' cores to use first either.
So I need to have 16 identical cores for now.
Besides that I I remember very well a time where Intel was the only choice, and took a lot of money for decent cpus. Back then it was very obvious that this is only possible because there is no other player around.
So at identical performance I support the smaller company in hope that we won't see a monopoly like that again.
(and no, AMD is not 'the good guy' here, I'm not that stupid)

    EDIT:
i´m super sorry because of my "hin und her"
    i can´t afford a 7900X Setup
All components would cost me together around 900-1000€ inkluding a new PSU

So i stick with the 7700X

Thanks for your detailled answer :)
There are always new Products before the door ^^
But i also need to watch a bit about the Money.

    I Think my maximum will be 650 - 700 €

I read and watched many videos now again.
    I think i shoot at the 7900x

Super cool video. The guy talked about the 7950x
So for my Budget and my tasks the 7900x will definitly make it.
Then i saw some Youtube Videos about Gaming.
    7800x3d vs 7900x

At first i was woooooow so much more FPS.
but look at the Temperatures ^^

I also read about the ECO mode for the 7900x
I think i stark with that mode and see how far i come.

    Common guys...
    From i5-3570k (4x 4,2ghz) to 7900x (12 x 4,7 ghz + Multithreading) ^^

Now i only need a stable Mainboard + Ram + Cooler
Lately i rly read much negative things about the ASUS midrange Budget boards :(
The Asus ProArt X670-E Creator, Task Force suggested is too expensive :(

So guys, i don´t want to hijack this thread for my build.
MAybe i open a new thread for that :)

But after many hours of reading i rly think it will be the 7900x @ 4,7 ghz

Asus have fkd up continuously but it's mainly due to bad customer services.. People in that dept have denied obvious RMAs and ASUS is trying like crazy to close the wound, but it keeps bleeding with more and more people complaining all the time. Also Asus is the main culprit for the i9 14xxx fuck ups with their Intel mobos' settings being practically unreal, so they can leave the competition behind in review metrics. It's not that Gigabyte,AsRock and MSI didn't follow accordingly, it's that their "performance" settings were reportedly a bit more mild on the cpus.
Looking at it from a builder's point of view though, Asus still offer the best featured mobos for the money but this stands only for the midrange and upwards. Nobody i know buys cheap Asus, myself included.
So to the matter at hand, the cheapest decent ATX mobo is the MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi at around 150 euros (European pricing). The first thing to look at when buying a mobo nowadays is the VRM onboard (I say nowadays, because the current cpus both from Intel and AMD draw crazy power, with AMD cpus being much more efficient though, ending up drawing significantly less than Intel alternatives. The winner here is... Apple hahaha but this is another story completely). This mobo features a 12+2+1 phases VRM solution which is adequate even for the top of the line Ryzen 9 so your future upgrade path is covered plus you won't have your VRMs "boiling" at 90-100 degrees Celcius as with cheaper boards. 32Gigs of DDR5 5600 ram and an Arctic Liquid Freezer 240 III AIO should set you back around 170 euros. Cheapest decent psu is Thermaltake Smart RGB 750W (80+ Standard) at 70 euros. Proposed psu is Corsair 750 RMX (80+ Gold) at about 110 euros.
    Cheers
PS: There's many more options when it comes to ram and cooling with differences reaching high numbers in money, but a 32gb fast DDR5 6000 (G.Skill S5 with CL30) and a triple radiator AIO from Arctic, is only 30 euros more than what i mentioned earlier.

Depends on your daw, but I would install w11.
My experience with 7900x, it runs smoother than win10 I tried. I don't even use anymore stripped windows, win pro and only basic optimization, which there are software for..

    Thanks for your Feedback :)
Which kind of Music do you make and which DAW? Many plugins?

I might consider Windows 11 after all, i really like the GUI in Darkmode.
But it will be definitly Atlas OS.
We tested it yesterday and the features are AWESOME.
And every detail can be tweaked and every security aspect can be respected by the tool.

    EDIT:
It is the AtlasOS W11 now.
    I´m super happy with that.

Will post my results in a few days in a new thread.

    Bye bye

I've pulled the trigger on a 7800X3D build. Because of the lack of customisation that Windows allows (even with after market tools) I will triple boot:

    - Windows 11 (DAW) (disable anti virus, mostly offline, don't need search or cloud backup)
    - Windows 11 (Gaming)
    - Linux

The reason I want to separate the DAW windows from the gaming windows is because I want a distinct separation of duties. I also don't want to PC's. Some people will have opinions that this is overkill, but it's the way I like things

    CPU: 7800X3D
    Memory: 64 GB DDR5 6000Mhz
    GPU: RTX 4080 Super
Motherboard: MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI
    Case: Lian Li
    SSD: (M2) 4TB / 2TB / 2TB
    SSD: (NVMe) 2TB / 2TB
    HDD: 8TB
    Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III

And you are right, it's the others who are wrong. A DAW partition always offline if possible. I know that nowadays it's not easy and you have to try hard to do it but believe me it's ideal, it guarantees the possibility of installing the least number of services, drivers, bloatware possible and absolute safety. If you really can't do it otherwise connect it as little as possible but even if you configure a firewall in the best possible way, you never have absolute certainty because there will always be apps that when they go online you don't know what else they do.... A partition for gaming and this obviously must have everything necessary. And in addition, a partition with a linux distro. So ultimately everything is ok like you have done:wink:

I haven't seen a post from you @taskforce in a long while. Great and very useful posts as always!

Just recently I thought "where's Taskforce?!" when there was an interesting thread about PC hardware, AMD 5700X or 7700X PC (I think), and I looked at your profile and saw you haven't posted in years. I hope everything is fine with you, man. Cheers! :drunks:

Yes mate i 've truly been away for years! Much obliged for your kind words. Lots have happened. I decided to close down my old studio facility 3-4 years ago. Too much shit happened with the building owner's successor (the original owner passed away). Then around the same time my wife got pregnant and this although intended, was not expected to become reality (wife's 50 now me 58). So i sold my flat. Sold the wife's flat lol. Sold a ton of gear as i had like five or ten of everything (don't worry i kept enough hehe). Bought a big four floor house in the suburbs, built a new smaller project studio in the ground floor. And now i am a happy dad making music and building computers again. So yeah i am almost back to normal and business as usual.
And to the op sorry for hijacking your thread mate.
    Cheers

or simplify your music creation process so you don't need a supercomputer to make some tracks...

Fatboy Slim wrote bangers on an amiga and the best they ever had was a 680040 clocked at 50hmz. We are often defined by our tools rather than our creativity. A faster computer won't make anyone a better musician or the NSA would dominate the charts worldwide.
