I got hold of stems for Whole 'Lotta Love (Zeppelin). I was going to do a type of "if they recorded it today" thing, where I re-triggered all the drums and corrected the timing and auto-tuned Robert Plant's vocals...
It was such an abomination I deleted it and never let anybody hear it.

One problem is that PHKING I-V-vi-IV chord progression, or (probably even more) shifting it over to vi-IV-I-V. It's in every. Damn. Song. I blame Taylor Swift and christian dildos like Chris Tomlin. My family physically hits me now when I go "there it is" on every song they like.

Foster? Is that you ? Just saying here, we don't need AI to make terrible music we have been doing it on our own as a species for millennia thank you very much.

First plugin is Waves Q10 @ 1992. But yeah small difference not to mention the 90s had some of the worse, overproduced music ever including some good portion of boy bands like the one in the OP.

My friend. Where to begin. I will not say that this is so poor that my 11" Focal sub completely ignores what you call bass. Lemme just stay on the fact that this has NO vocals apart from one word which anyone can argue if its spoken or comp generated. So yeah by cleaner vocals meaning the vacuum swept it all away. Lol.

I'll take it upon myself to change the title of the thread based on what I percieve the current state of affairs...

I mean, Yeah without question theres an intrinsic magic regarding those eras/
And when one thinks of the hardware used , we covet so much of that analogue domain and theres a huge kinda digitisation of everything involved these days

It truly amazes me simply because in the 90,s running an atari1040st/cubase 5/Hardware etc, I Never thought there would be a day where id happily set up the vast majority of my studio within a PC>
And that it would be capable of what i could only dream of 25 plus yrs back
I was always deeply rooted in hardware and its just funny that for so long i was so so against even trying software counterparts,

Daw's this day n age are truly biblically powerfull in comparision/and entire different realm

    Im going off topic apologies
To Capture The Soul and Emotion so many of the songs of those golden eras you mentioned, via composition using digital means as we all do without thining about it too much as we open up cubase/live etc is something reserved for the trult talented

Unfortunately, it is difficult to know to what extent it is a generational clash (culture shock - which implies provocation on both sides) or, in fact, how bad and sloppy certain current prominent songs are. Good and bad songs have always existed and always will exist. The problem is the emphasis given to each thing: In the past, there was interest in producing a good album with quality standards that would sell relatively well for 20 years. Nowadays, there is strong interest in producing albums that will sell quickly, just like a bullet, based on a mix of lack of technique, experimentation and low budget, resulting in productions of very dubious quality - things are fleeting and not made to last. Anyway, I hope this stupid trend turns out to be a temporary thing, 'cos, in the end, any generation loses when faced with the trivialization and diffusion of what is bad.

"Older songs are better than now" could be arguably true on an objective level. Once, Cole Porter and the Gershwins were the norm. That kind of harmonic and melodic language is currently lost to mainstream music. It couldn't be understood or accepted by the average music listener today. I'm not saying that's good or bad to society as a whole but it's certainly true. Everything is dumber than 100 years ago. Books, movies, music, all of it. If you played most modern movie scores for Korngold or Herrman, or even Jerry Goldsmith they'd kick you in the balls.

You mean older songs are better than NOW ? As in, the elusive moment when you can experience eternity if you're deep in meditation or a psychedelic trip ?

You'd rather have Billie Jean than total enlightenment ??

Objective, well-devised, clear, understandable and as simple as possible!

And be careful: defenders of liquid mediocrity (when less is really less like a big bag of nothing) will want to convince you that scores based on drones, textures, marked by the absence of memorable motifs, rhythms and melodies are the quintessence of human production...
