no wonder RME ditched Thunderbolt for USB 3.0 last year with UFX III

 

i don't think it's "dead" per say, intel will probably release an updated version to let the end user choose either to lock compatibility or enable it and "risk it"...

 

Stagnation means decline! If developers want to keep everyone happy that wants to keep using their legacy devices we'd probably still be using serial and parallel ports.
There are always options to keep using old(er) devices. You could buy an expansion card that supports the older version or maybe the original manufacturers can write an updated driver that will somehow support the newer hardware?
But IMO clinging on to legacy hardware should never get in the way of developing new, faster, better and more secure versions.

"stagnation" means a loss of revenue...most features aren't used by most users. its always a money grab. vinyl,8-track,cassette. I know this movie i lived it. every upgrade is not about the user, its about money. sell you the same shit with a new name or color or celebrity endosement. the fish keep going for the worm, they never learn.....

By the way I don't see the problem with making thunderbolt 3 devices. RME is a bunch of lying scumbags for defending going from thunderbolt to USB. It was all about the cost nothing else. Everybody knows PCIe and thunderbolt is much better for low latency and stability than USB. By the way the USB devices from both RME and Presonus sucks compare to their thunderbolt devices. And still they dare to say it an upgrade.

Yeah, even being on Apple silicon, one of the interfaces I am thinking about buying is available both in thunderbolt and usb, and I know TB is probably better for what "I" am doing, I'm still on the fence tbh...

I don't think you understand issue. Thunderbolt 2 works on thunderbolt 4 if the firmware is 31 or lower. Before calling someone a moron maybe understand the problem

most folks are "consumers" by choice, I prefer to be a citizen and make choices that help me stay on that path. if you are in a poker game and don't know who the sucker is, its probably you.

at some point it should become obvious newer is just an excuse to be experimented on by developers of hardware and software.
I'm not anti-computer, I probably have owned or installed a thousand of them. Its just that at some point one notices a pattern...
