So i was going through old plugins again and i stumbled upon the old VST Spectral Designs version of Quadrafuzz.i don't remember if it was always like this ,but its very buggy.if you just use the presets its fine, but if you try to pull out the edit tab with the crossovers,it crashes any DAW i use it in.so,i went and found the DX version and used it in the VB Audio FX Rack ,which is a DX shell.it works ok here for the most part but when you close the plugin GUI and open it again,it reverts back to the first preset and undoes all the tweaks.i tried grabbing the DLL from my old install of SX and the issue on that is that the edit tab doesn't exist.its just blank

Does anybody know of a version of Quadrafuzz that works as intended outside of Cubase or Nuendo, either DX or VST?

I'd really like to use Quadrafuzz again.its an incredibly unique, bizarre multiband distortion that no other multiband distortion comes close to even after all this time

there is only one cracked version - Steinberg QuadraFuzz v1.01 VST/DX
if you have installer you can unpack it with unirsal extractor and put dll to your vst plugins dir. but it have only 1 edit panel of 2.

I'm aware of that version.that's the one that crashes when you open the edit panel, but there is also an earlier version which works "fine"as a DX except for the fact that when you close the GUI it doesn't recall the setting and reverts back to the settings when you first open the plugin.its not DX related either, because i tried other DX plugins, and they recall their states fine

I must have imagined there being a stable version that works fine outside of Cubase/Nuendo

Were the two issues described a protection scheme or rather faulty bridging?

Any working version or solution for the red Quadrafuzz (v1.0/v1.01) out there?

There's this one - Steinberg.Quadrafuzz.v1.0-Radium. Maybe it works?

think it's the latter. i ripped the blue version out of my old copy of SX and it seems to work fine for the most part in Jbridge, BUT.. probably because of the bridging method it has a tendency to sometimes cause buffer underruns or something. it seems to happen sporadically, so i assume it's just J Bridge. i don't know of any other reliable 3rd party bridging solution. J-Bridge certainly aint it

can you PM me that? i haven't come across that one. RET is a more recent group, so maybe it doesn't require bridging

Exactly. I have some versions, this one is the only one that works. Works in REAPER as it should, beside the very small GUI everything is OK.

I have Kombinat DVA and Tri and its not even close. Quadrafuzz has this upwards compression almost like quality despite it obviously being a waveshaper. bringing up a lot of low level detail in sounds and stuff without them needing to sound obviously distorted(its good at that too though)listen to some of the distorted stuff in SebastiAn and Jutice's early stuff. that's all Quadrafuzz. i've even tried copying the curve in Meldawaveshaper and it just doesn't sound the same. when i try and draw a upwards comp type transfer curve in a waveshaper it usually just sounds like quantisation distortion, but strangely, a plugin that is over two decades old was able to do it though. i highly doubt it was double precision as well considering Spectral Designs first put out Quadrafuzz as a plugin as early as 1999. the only thing i have that even comes vaguely close to it is Boom Libraries Uberloud, and Heavyocities Fury on the diode settings is sort of close too, albeit super coloured and with transient specific saturation

That grey 1.1.1.1 version has the same Craig Anderton presets than the 1.01 red version, but the red version still sounds a bit different/more aggressive to my ears? Would need a confirmed nulltest to be sure...

This seems to be the same as the 1.01.

I was thinking maybe there is a clever trick to map parameters via METAPLUGIN or AUDIOGRIDDER for the DX version to prevent resetting their UI visually, or at least preserve the setting of the controls otherwise, as the sound is actually still set to what the parameters were last set to - until you touch any of the ui control elements again, then everything gets instantly updated/"reset".

I am using dxshell btw., if the issue lies with that maybe some other DX->VST wrapper would be better. Or trying any older (32bit) DX host to see if the issue lies right with the plugin version itself.
