Had she scaled down the size and numbers of her arena tour or was willing to co-headline with another artist or featured several rising up and coming musical acts with a large and growing youth following, the result would have been very different. I'm also certain if she had started her tour in Latin America with artists like Pitbull or featured herself as a festival co-headliner with Maluma, J Balvin or other reggaeton artists, it would've been much more successful. Much of her music is catered for the club scene so I'm not sure why she hasn't tried to link herself with more club and edm artists when touring.

Perhaps because confidentiality contracts are starting to expire (20 years have passed), singer Natasha Ramos took to TikTok to shed light on a rumor that had been bubbling on the fringes of the internet without making it into the mainstream conversation: that Jennifer Lopez doesn’t sing in most of her choruses.

Ramos, who has a voice very similar to Lopez’s, was hired to sing the demo of Jenny From The Block. The production team liked her voice so much that they asked her to record five more songs for the album This Is Me... Then (including the single I’m Glad). Ramos received $3,500 and a backup singer’s credit. However, as she claims and as the original demo demonstrates, it is her voice that appears in the final track. And not only in the choruses, it’s also her laugh and her yelling: “From the Bronx!” Lopez only sings in the verse.

This time the news did have repercussions. Several media outlets unearthed this open secret: in I’m Real and Ain’t It Funny it is Ashanti who is singing the chorus, in Play it is Christina Milian, and in the recent track Ain’t Your Mama it is Meghan Trainor. Several analysts have pointed out that in other big Lopez hits such as If You Had My Love, Love Don’t Cost a Thing and All I Have, Lopez’s voice is not heard in the chorus either. There is speculation that they were actually recorded by backup singers such as Shawnyette Harrell, Makeva Riddick, Canela Cox or Shalene Thomas. The theory is that these singers, with more range than Lopez, were used to cover up the star’s vocal shortcomings. It’s argued that while Lopez can sing a verse, her voice is not strong enough for a chorus.

In January, a clip went viral of rising star Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) questioning Lopez’s talent on a podcast in 2020. “Her whole career is one long scam,” said Edebiri. “She thinks she’s on multiple tracks, but it’s not her [...] A lot of the write-ups of the songs will be like, ‘J. Lo didn’t have time to make it to the studio.’ Like, ‘J. Lo was busy.’ Doing what? Not singing, obviously.”

yeah I looked it up when we were mentioning "Upgrade", amazing. Upgrade cost 3 million to make and netted about 21 million, i don't know if thats us or worldwide.. but, and you may disagree, since it does have a fair bit of violence, but its an entertaining story for such a slender budget and you wouldn't know the budget was that low watching the screen.

I often watch, films of the 1930's and 1940's just to see the how the world has changed. and yet still a good story from back then, is still entertaining today. Whereas I fear most of the current movies like from the last decade are mostly forgettable in spite of huge budgets.

Like music is all about the song, movies are all about the story. a bad song never gets better no matter how much you polish it and likewise a bad story never gets better even with top notch CGI and 12.1 surround sound.

Guess Jlo is learning this story... with her current album and tour, that it turns out nobody really wanted...

 

My wife wanted to watch the movie and kinda made me sit on the couch to do the same as she enjoys a Jennifer Lopez film. When I wasn't actually, literally sleeping from the boredom I felt that the dialog was contrived, the storyline absurd (an over 2 light year trip to Andromeda and back...how?...WTF?), the acting stiff and the direction amateurish. Did high school sophomores write the script? The best thing about it all was the special effects and they weren't that special at all. What a waste of an evening and $100,000,000 sure ain't what it used to be. Jeez! Maybe she should just kick back by the pool of one of her houses and enjoy margaritas in the LA sun instead of trying to do stuff that she can no longer do,
