I'd like to thank our member in good standing, Amore_de_la_Vida, for coming forward and sharing this grand idea for our forum. I hope that this contest that isn't a contest picks up momentum and becomes a regular thread that many members both participate in with entries of their work and/or voting or by showing enthusiasm for by dropping in to listen to the music.

If there are to be rules on this pass I would only say that an entry must be an original piece by the artist or collaborators written specifically for the artwork supplied as a means of inspiration for said entry. It can be of any length, any genre and using any hardware, software or samples that one chooses. Additionally I would ask for a short (or a treatise if one wished) description of the motivation that inspired the song. Videos accompanying a song are not allowed. On that note...here is the artwork that hopes to inspire a treasure trove of entries entitled " Strange Reflection".

Badges, we don't need no stinking badges!

The last day of submission is July 8th at 23:59 Greenwich Mean Time.

I'll supply a means of voting as the time draws nearer.

One question...as organizer am I allowed to submit a song?

You're the Chief, you decide! :scrapbox:

Personally I think that everyone, including the Great Organizer Herself, can submit an entry, so we can discuss, debate and tell our impressions / feelings about it...

I would like to share my first impressions about the painting:

If my name was Steve Reich, I would tell that your painting include a "dephasing" - a strange "doubling" in the strokes, a special blur, like if there was in fact two paintings superposed, I'm not fluent concerning painting but It's like there was a special "effect" that renders your painting... special.

"Special", also because there is something "organic" in the clouds' reflection on the water, it is subtle but I thought immediately about the shape of a body... hence the title?

Perhaps you will find all these words useless, but they will orient completely my future contribution, I already have some ideas, of course like each time I don't know if I will be able to develop these ideas as they should, but I will try.

I encourage everyone to share your first impressions about the painting, because it will determine the way that you will interpret it, the direction that your inspiration will take, etc...

I'm in for sure :like:..... @Amore_de_la_Vida, as requested, my first impression on seeing the painting...

...and the old white bird, exhausted by despair, had willingly sought out a place of grief on the far horizon, beyond the crystal lake. It knew future generations would know of the tragedy of the past. It chose a sacred place among the lavender plains. It was her time to die. To remain alone in the enormous sky would be too lonely. She was dead even before she fell. The lavender bushes absorbed her weight and had she been conscious she would have been content. Her reflection was caught up in the light, magnified and her spirit filled the vast and empty sky.....

It wasn't supposed to be like this. They said it would be oh so easy, that all she had to do was just put one foot in front of the other, but what they did in reality was to lie to her. It wasn't just a few short minutes until the task was completed, and now she had been walking for three long and wearing days and was still in the very same place from which she had started. The horizon remained static and was never changing, but the sky's reflection undulated, morphed and kept mutating in the lakes blurple breeze rippling waters. She would imagine that the reflection was at once a lizard, then a crawdaddy, then evolving into those she had known in her past...her mother, her father, her old gray cat Wendel Wilke. When thirst demanded she would hike up her ruffled tulle skirt above her now swollen knees and double kneel at the water's edge to scoop up in cupped hands a warm and almost gritty few sips of that lukewarm fishy, frothy almost water like liquid past her chapped and cracking lips.

Wooow... If I could say something in French, I would say: "Vous avez une plume !" meaning: you both have a writing style, a talent for narration, and it's exactly what could helps you very much to create a sound... then another... then assemble all your sounds in a song.

During the elaboration of "Battle for Everything" I realized what you two already know very well: each note, each sample can be exactly like words and punctuation in a story, so starting by telling a story, very close to what you both are individually, as Artists and humans, is an excellent starting point!
Bravo!:shalom:You both Rock very hard! :metal:

Inspired by the comments above, now I know exactly what story I will tell! It will be a surprise... or not, if you don't like the result. Prepare your ears in advance, try to insert a wine cork on them, and watch closely the weather, you never know what sonic catastrophe could possibly happens by my fault... :woot::deep_facepalm::facepalm::crazy:

Plus I'm afraid it will be a little long, loads of guitars to add... Loads of things to think about and elaborate a little... The way it have started, not before three, four weeks, perhaps more... Thanks to have put the limit to July!!!

    The wisper of the horizon,
on the hands of a child,
    drawing a puppy cloud,
    a lake where sky reflects.

    A purple line,
    makes me doubt...

    The surface is lying
    after this quiet,
    the waterfall,
    the rainbow,
    the butterflies,
    white foam,
    crocs and your skin.

    (Later the sound)

Just a clue: If I cite you the name of Chrétien de Troyes, I'm quite sure it could resonate in any of us.

Yesterday, the painting evoked to me the symbolic landscape of the magic Lake, where patiently, La Dame du Lac remains, Her immense potentiality hidden to ordinary eyes... It's exactly the idea I will try to develop in the little sound I'm working on...

Of course this guy, Chrétien de Troyes, is not the inventor of the legends he have compiled in his books (a little censored and very PC, I'm sure), but I think these tales, with the help of Time, have became part of our collective unconscious, in particular there is this universal idea of a quest...

John Lennon said he was in the quest of nothing but himself. He said in a interview that each people he meet, anything that happens in his life is just a reflection of what he is, an opportunity to learn more about this mystery that is his own self.

I think this is the ultimate adventure, seeking our inner Graal before vanishing into air, like ephemeral, agitated butterflies...

I totally got the puffy, floaty, cloud watching vibe. I think that I actually levitated a little on my seat in the tram while listening, only coming back down as you changed the vibe towards the end. Nice playing and song!

Wooow... I really appreciated the 60's psyche ambiance! :hifive: Nice treatment of the guitars, the acoustic sounds plain and thick, like it "supports" all the other instruments, and the tremoloed electric is really a painting, a soundscape in itself!

The only thing that missed me - but perhaps I'm wrong - is a lead voice and lyrics to achieve mesmerizing your audience... This kind of composition is ideal to place at least few words / vocal notes or, why not, spoken words?

But anyway, I have to thank you, because I really passed a delicious moment listening to your creation!

@Grape Ape a gorgeous dreamy ride took me on a 3:33 trip so thank you. I too particularly liked the tremolo gee-tar ! Had a lovely retro vibe to it all. Great submission, I feel really sorry for the cat though!

'Cloudy Cat & The Suicide Pact' is actually a good band name :) As @Amore_de_la_Vida already said some sort of vocal would have been icing on the cake but even without it was a like a piece of freshly baked warm Victoria sponge cake :goodpost:

@Lois Lane : lol, youre so cool. thanks for throwing the party
@Amore_de_la_Vida: mainly i didnt want my voice to be recognized, i have a recognizable voice - i did have the hum more in the forefront of the mix at first; but it didnt work as well with the atmosphere, which is the whole songwriting approach. atmosphere is something you feel, with the vocal too forward, it makes it more tangible and less airy

atmosphere is also an abstract thing - with lyrics i feel like id be trying too hard to sell a feeling. like if you listen to dream pop (which is around atmosphere), like say Cocteau Twins, shes not actually saying anything, Elizabeth would actually make up words; and usually for the genre, the vocals are whispered and drowned in reverb - all about the atmosphere homie

@Aidene : hey wow wow, copyright on the name. ill sue the shampoo out of you hair lol, jk - cool you caught the 333 though, curious to see what youve been cooking up out in the cosmos for this
