My tastes are fairly conservative, and I try to replicate the well-known recording chains that have been used on classic albums. It's all 3rd party stuff, and I experiment with various plugins to get a sound I like. When it comes to like for like I'll mostly choose Nebula, and I usually add a nebula line/pre to algo plugins such as EQ, etc. I've been at it for quite a while now, but as others have said it can be a bit cumbersome and you have to be committed! Templates help a lot though once you have worked out an ideal workflow, and at the end of the day it's all about having different choices, so give it a go if you haven't already.

People complaining about Nebula being clunky are just lazy...2 decades ago people used real tape machines. Algo software has made people lazy and stupid. Making and editing music should be fun. Taking the short route is the crap we hear in today's music. The irony - look at the Youtube 'experts' and their never-ending plugin chains...all I hear is crap.

And to the guy/gal starting this discussion, Nebula needs more props for what it is - the closest you will get to real hardware in the box (without Giancarlo's BS)...but again, I'm happy we are 'underground'..the reason why other mixers say: 'wow, what did you use on that bass' hahaha

It doesn't matter if it's nearly the same or not, it's what inspires your ears, and TimP is cheaper and better

The 3rd party developers are far away from AA, and they have slowly been isolated, but they are still the best.

BTW what did you use on that bass? :)

True, but let's be honest..there is a sound quality difference..we're splitting hears here hahaha..the end user doesn't hear all these in-house preferred solutions haha:)

And we need to keep supporting them - well I shared some libs here and there, but I make sure I pay for what I use. Especially Tim P, Alex, and Cupwise...they made me appreciate sound much more than ever before:)

Yeah, those 3 are great, and I also use the AITB Bricasti M7 Reverb.

In my humble opinion, the best Room (what I got) reverb in the box. Never had the real Bricasti in my studio, but it blows away seventh heaven.

Nebula not having any presets is a positive thing IMO.

I've got Nebula mapped to a Midi Fighter Twister controller (16 knobs) and it works really great, especially on EQ moves.

It's nice hardware if you use the Softube Console software  What DAW do you use?

for everyone who laughs at my statement... here is a test/prove
    link
tell me x is timp or y... la2a, much gain reduction...
to my ears, they are 80% 90% the same...
what I'm saying is if someone wants something like timp 1176 and 2a but in algorithmic plugins... native instruments are very close to them...

i want to try, but at 50$ a pop, with ZERO sound examples anywhere online, and no demo, anddddd i already have various similar function pluings , acquas, etc... ive been hesitant. I even reached out to the dev asking if i could a low sample rate demo, and never heard back. Do you have any audio example you could share, ETC?
