Knowledge is born from real, practical experience. Books that are studied by prominent composers are based on expirience of their predecessors, other prominent composers.

What books did the first prominent composers study? There were no such books. Just trial and error. Experience.

I think all good music requires a creative spirit behind it, a real person with knowledge and experience (AI really just steals from real talent). It often arrives in the form of an instrumentalist, somebody who may not have in-depth knowledge of how music theory works but who knows from experience what works generally over most music. Create a mediocre piece of bland music and add Jeff Beck and it will suddenly be incredible. If music theory can't quantify what great composers and great instrumentalists do generic music writing software certainly can't, but it is a starting point and what matters is what you do with it, not what it does with you, it should never be the focal point.

Certainly, the books were written after discoveries and experiences, but one thing that exists is that every generation of musicians knew about the music of previous generations either by reading their texts or by performing and listening to them.
Books contain a part of human experiences, not all of them because books have a certain volume and music is a very large entity, but what is important is that books contain important parts and can be good references for musicians.
When someone does not have proper knowledge of the experiences of their previous generations (whether these experiences are in books or in previous music works) and acts on empiricism, there is a very small possibility that that experience will lead to the creation of an impressive work of art, because Music is not an art of creation in the moment, and like any natural phenomenon, it has a history. The history of music makes it necessary to study and learn about the works of the past, and without knowing them, trying to create something is practically an ineffective effort. History is the information of the past and not referring to it will cause the repetition of bitter events.

Danie, you are obviously not a musician, have never shown yourself to be by way of works you have composed or related at all any experience or authority for the critiques and admonishment that peppers every post that you have submitted. All I have ever read from your rant is just lots of philosophical non comittal gibberish that never actually has a point and never can show examples of either something that you have composed or any at all real world application of your spout, and by constantly posting your annoying diatribes you demean the art of creation. Here's a place that could really use your ideas to help push them in the correct direction, why don't you go pound rocks over there instead of here, it seems more your lane.

I usually create my themes, melodies and harmonizations on my instruments (guitar/acoustic guitar/viola/keyboard that I record with my cell phone). Then I go to notation software and develop the materials to then write the MIDI version of my track (rarely, as a nostalgic gesture, I use paper and pencil, but I think it's a waste of time, since, for the last 15 years, my entire process is digital). Once this is done, I import the MIDI into my DAW and from there I try to approach and finalize my idea according to the style that my track refers to. I have some plugin chains that match the styles I use to speed up the process. No big mysteries.

*Where workflow is concerned, I create custom templates and drag n drop tracks/groups with my most used plugins/presets and routing already setup and saved in a custom folder accessible in the DAW browser for quick recall in any project they're needed. Do it once and done. Takes mere seconds to grab, load up and ready to record. Modify if/as needed from there. It saves me literally hours of search, choice and setup times in just about every session.

Using Pen & Paper most, but after 10 years i accepted that my smartfone (android) CAN be useful.

    For kwick melodies i use:
    - Nail the pitch (summing in the melody, and this little friend gives you a saveable MIDI (and Wav)
For other ideas i used normal recording apps, since i found:
    - Koala &
    - Flip
I can take the sample directly from the folder, and these both samplerecorders offer you a dummy-proof gui for fast pitching, give a beat under your 'idea' and even more complex hands on.

Of course there are other Apps, too, n-track (with such little knobs and fonts, i cannot use), or a 'simple DAW' like fl-mobile. BUT, my fav is 'nail the pitch' and 'Koala' or 'Flip'.

    Have fun, regs, S.
