Is there any way to upgrade from Reaper V6 to Reaper v7 and maintain all settings, keymaps, and 3rd party extensions?

I have a bunch of extra stuff installed to reaper 6 (like Heda Track Inspector) and if possible I'd like to avoid having to reinstall all of the extensions on v7.

Can a Reaper expert please share some advice or knowledge with me?

I don't think there should be any issues. I've just run V7 when it came out over my existing V6 instalation and all settings were there.
You can always export complete Reaper settings and roll back if you need to. But I don't think you will have to.

 

Thank you! I was looking for someone to confirm whether or not it was a direct overwrite that retains settings. From what you're describing it seems like that is the case.

I'll be sure to make a backup of my current v6 version and all associated folders.

 

I did update from V6 to V7 and all my settings, themes, scripts and so on where still there.
Of course, as already said, you could export all settings, just to be on the safe side.

 

Exporting your settings/config as a ReaperZip file from the settings page is probably more important than fiddling about with the files directly, but I upgraded straight and don't remember having any issues other than making sure I had a 7.0 compatible SWS.

And this reminds me that I haven't backed up my settings in the last few months.

 

Just adding to the already consensus.... but yes, you can upgrade from 6 to 7 without losing your settings and such.

One thing I'd highly recommend is figuring out how to get your Reaper install as a "portable" install. I haven't looked back since doing that.. it affords you the ability to just easily back up the whole portable Reaper install somewhere... then you just do that before doing something potentially stupid/catastrophic that may mess up your install/settings (among other benefits) and if you screw up, just simply copy the original folder back.

Multiple portable installs can co-exist on a PC too, so it's really nice for testing out stuff like different Reaper versions or whatever you might have in mind. There's a thread here that tells you how to convert a regular install to portable, should you wish to do that. It's fairly easy. And you even can keep the full install lingering around in case you either messed up the portable install process or don't like it (I can't see the latter being a thing, but who knows).
