Hello, in recent days my version of kickstart 2 has stopped working, no license needed but it will lose the sound. Has anyone found a solution yet?

Did you update to the latest patched serum? This has happened to me as well. I imagine it's conflicting between them and you'll most likely have to wait until KickStart is updated.

 

You should firewall Kickstart, or block in hosts file by blocking Cableguys domain.

It may ask for your license every so often. put that zip file in your documents folder or somewhere else you can remember where you stored it. If that is too much effort, go back to v1 or buy it. It has nothing to do with Serum.

 

This is incorrect. It has only started happening since installing the newest patched Serum, everything is blocked in the host files and firewall. Like OP said in the initial post, it's not prompting for a license and the GUI functions correctly showing either MIDI/Audio passing through correctly, it just doesn't output any sound. There are other posts similar on other distribution sites with people facing similar issues after installing the latest patched serum

 

My Serum is legit and Kickstart has done the same thing before. Also, which version of Kickstart, v2.0? I seem to remember a version of 2.01 or 2.02 and I reverted back to 2.0.

It has nothing to do with Serum. If the cracker who put out the version of Serum you are using did something to break other plugins; that's not Serum doing anything. It's a bad crack.

Is it the Audiowarez release as 1.368. Regged ? That release mentions it is not even patched. How would that affect other software?

Open Terminal. issue the following command: sudo nano /etc/hosts

Enter your password

Add 0.0.0.0 www.cableguys.com to the file. Hit Control+O to write the file. done

It should look something like this:
# Host Database

#

# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface

# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.

##

127.0.0.1 localhost

255.255.255.255. broadcasthost

0.0.0.0 www.cableguys.com

 

Hi all, it worked for me:

1. Close DAW....
2. The next step> open the CleanMyMac application (Use Clean My Mac 4.15.4 , because search won't show up kickstart in 5.0.1)
If you don't have it installed, you can download it from the Internet.
3. Open and click UNINSTALLER (you Will not see kickstrat2 in the Application List)
4. Here, in the upper right corner, in the SEARCH window, type: - KickStart 2...(the program will find the file)
5. Check the box next to the found file and Uninstall (at the bottom of the program by clicking the UNINSTALL button) this file.
6. Open DAW (I have Ableton)
7. Upload to the KickStart 2 track (it will ask you to show the license file)
8. Activate (show) the license file...... I took a license file from Windows for this distribution - for some reason I chose it... (I wanted to check if the Windows file on the Mac would work, and it worked)

Done!

I had to repeat this process after a while (a month or something), but worked again.

your problem is still caused by your cracked Serum. Use Suspicious Package to look at the preinstall scripts and compare them. You should also compare their info.plist files. Your problem is still being caused by whatever k'd version of Serum you are running, because Kickstart 2 lives on the same Mac as legit Serum with no problems at all.

Kickstart may timebomb at some point where it asks for license again. But that also has nothing to do with Serum because it would do that either way. Personally, I prefer to use Devious Machines Duck.

The plist file for Kickstart2 is this file de.cableguys.kickstart2.plist . It is located at Macintosh SSD⁩ ▸ ⁨Users⁩ ▸ ⁨YOUR USERNAME ▸ ⁨Library⁩ ▸ ⁨Preferences⁩

You should delete that if there is still a copy there before you install Kickstart again. You should use Find Any File and delete everything found searching for Kickstart if you haven't already done that.
